Welcome Back, RotoBallers, to most fantasy baseball rankings. August is here. The MLB trade is officially over, and many players switched uniforms over the past few days. We have updated our fantasy baseball rankings to reflect all the recent trades, news, and injuries. Today, we review Nick Mariano's updated 2024 fantasy baseball rankings and tiers for roto leagues (5x5 mixed leagues) as of August 1, 2024, to help make those all-important roster decisions for the fantasy championship run.
These rankings are released in August, as Nick provides his rest-of-season fantasy baseball rankings and player values for the rest of this MLB season from this point forward. We are following many interesting storylines closely, all baked into these updated rankings, and you can see them below. Let's see where players like Bobby Witt Jr., Jackson Holliday, Colton Cowser, Spencer Schwellenbach, Mike Trout, Hayden Birdsong, Jack Flaherty, Isaac Paredes, Ben Joyce, Xavier Edwards, and Christopher Morel currently rank. All of them have been performing well recently, struggling, returning from injury, or recently changed teams.
Some players are off to a great start in the second half, while some have struggled mightily. Which trends do we take seriously, and which do we put less stock into? Is it time to elevate our expectations on certain players and elevate touted prospects into a higher tier for fantasy baseball leagues? How much patience must we show for highly touted players who continue to struggle, especially veterans with proven track records? Hopefully, the rankings below will give you some perspective on our thoughts on these topics and help you assess the strength of your rosters going forward.

Rest-Of-Season Fantasy Baseball Rankings - Week 20 Notes
We recently saw top prospects, such as Jackson Holliday, promoted to the big leagues. In Wednesday's win over the Blue Jays, Holliday crushed a grand slam for his first career homer. The 20-year-old should see everyday at-bats with Jordan Westburg and Jorge Mateo landing on the injured list. On Tuesday, the Orioles traded away top infield prospect Connor Norby to the Miami Marlins. Holliday has massive upside and should be added to all leagues.
Bobby Witt Jr. is putting up video game numbers. He is slashing .500/.529/.851 with eight doubles, seven home runs, and two stolen bases over his last 104 plate appearances. The 24-year-old is slashing .349/.396/.596 with 19 home runs, 76 RBI, 91 runs, and 24 stolen bases over 109 games in 2024. Witt is vying to be the best player in fantasy baseball and is currently third overall in our rankings behind Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani. Since July 20, San Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Tyler Fitzgerald has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball. He is slashing .341/.408/.909 with seven home runs and 12 RBI over his last 12 games.
Injuries continue to pile up. Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout has been ruled out for the season with a tear in his left knee. The Baltimore Orioles placed infielder Jordan Westburg on the injured list with a fractured hand. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich landed on the injured list with back inflammation. Yelich plans to rest and rehab his back injury, putting off surgery until the offseason. However, there is no timetable for his return. Reinforcements are coming. Los Angeles Dodgers star second baseman Mookie Betts is participating in batting practice and could return from the injured list in a couple of weeks. Betts has been sidelined since June 16 with a fractured left hand. New York Mets outfielder Starling Marte will begin a rehab assignment with Single-A Lucie on Monday and could return from the injured list soon. Marte has been sidelined since June 22 due to a bone bruise in his right knee.
Some notable performances include Atlanta Braves right-hander Spencer Schwellenbach. He is (3-1) with a 2.08 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, and an impressive 28:1 K: BB over his last four starts. The 24-year-old is dialed in and struck out a career-high 11 batters in Saturday's 4-0 win over the New York Mets. Since the start of the second half, Miami Marlins infielder Xavier Edwards has been swinging a hot bat, slashing .415/.481/.561 with a home run, nine RBI, eight runs, and six stolen bases over his previous 12 games. Edwards also hit for the cycle in Sunday's loss to the Brewers.

These rankings will be updated weekly throughout the season, so some situations are very fluid. It's not panic time yet, and we may not be ready to elevate hot-starting players into the elite yet, but it's certainly a good checkpoint for the long fantasy season.
