2 days agoMilwaukee Brewers starting pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski tossed five shutout innings in his first start of the season at Triple-A on Sunday. Misiorowski tallied seven punchouts and allowed just one hit. He served up three free passes. This was a dominant outing for Misiorowski, who is considered one of the top right-handed pitching prospects in the sport. Last season, the Crowder College product spent most of his time with Double-A, where he posted a strong 3.50 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP. Across 79 2/3 innings, he tallied 105 punchouts but struggled with his command as he allowed 50 walks. He then received a brief look at Triple-A, where he tossed 17 2/3 innings to the tune of a 2.55 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP. With Aaron Civale (hamstring) hitting the 15-day IL, the Brewers may turn to Misiorowski sooner than expected. He should be closely monitored in all 12-team formats.Source: MiLB.com
2 days agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner (back) is not in the team's lineup for their home-opening series against the Colorado Rockies. Turner has been limited to just one outing thus far while experiencing back spasms that have held him out for three straight contests. Fortunately, the 31-year-old was seen taking ground balls on Monday. He noted that he was feeling better and that he hoped to play again on Wednesday. Turner has no hits in his first four at-bats but has been a good bet for four-category production when he's healthy. Teammate Edmundo Sosa projects to continue filling in at shortstop while the veteran is sidelined.Source: Philadelphia Phillies
2 days agoNew York Mets outfield prospect Drew Gilbert (hamstring) was placed on the 7-day injured list. Gilbert dealt with hamstring injuries last season and was unable to participate in the Grapefruit League. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but should expect the Mets to be cautious with Gilbert. Gilbert is considered one of the top hitting prospects in the system. Last season, the former 28th overall selection only appeared in 62 contests in the minor leagues. He spent most of his time with Triple-A, where he held a .215/.313/.393 slash line. However, during the 2023 campaign, Gilbert was very productive at the Double-A level, posting a strong .271/.372/.438 slash line with 12 long balls across 95 games. When he returns to action, he could push for an MLB debut in the second half of the campaign.Source: MiLB.com
2 days agoPer Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun, Baltimore Orioles outfielder Heston Kjerstad is set for more playing time against right-handed pitchers in the absence of teammate Colton Cowser (thumb). Cowser recently fractured his thumb sliding for a base and is expected to miss six to eight weeks while he recovers. In the meantime, Kjerstad will slot in against righties while fellow outfielders Ramon Laureano and Dylan Carlson will get some run against lefties. Kjerstad -- a former first-round pick -- tore up minor league pitching at every stop since joining the organization in 2022 but hasn't been able to put it together in the majors just yet. He'll get an extended look with Cowser on the mend.Source: Jacob Calvin Meyer
2 days agoAthletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas has gone 3-for-9 at the plate with a home run and two RBI across his first three games of the Triple-A regular season. He has tallied at least one hit in each game and has held a 3:3 BB:K. The Mercer product was in the mix for a spot on the Opening Day roster during camp, but instead, the Athletics opted for him to continue his development in the minor leagues. Last summer, Thomas split his season between Double-A and Triple-A. In 59 games at Double-A, Thomas posted a .282/.340/.568 line with 19 doubles and 14 home runs. Then, across his first 73 games with Triple-A Las Vegas, the 24-year-old posted a .272/.344/.559 line. Fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue to monitor his progression as he could push for an early-season MLB debut.Source: MiLB.com
2 days agoCincinnati Reds pitching prospect Rhett Lowder (forearm) has begun throwing off the mound. The 23-year-old was unable to participate during spring training due to a right forearm strain. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, but it appears he is taking steps forward in his recovery process. Last season, the former seventh overall pick made his big league debut. Lowder logged 30 2/3 innings in Cincinnati and held a 1.17 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He tallied 22 punchouts and posted a high 10.9 percent walk rate. Earlier in the season, the former Wake Forest product progressed quickly through the Cincinnati system. He spent most of his time at Double-A, where he posted a 4.32 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP across 77 1/3 innings. When healthy, he should contend for a return to the big leagues.Source: C. Trent Rosecrans
2 days agoBaltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan O'Hearn is taking a seat on Monday as the team lines up against the Boston Red Sox and left-handed pitcher Sean Newcomb. The 31-year-old went 6-for-14 over the team's opening series against the Toronto Blue Jays, but he'll ride the pine as they square off against their first lefty in 2025. Ryan Mountcastle will take over at first base and bat fourth, while Heston Kjerstad will bat fifth at DH. O'Hearn has historically been worse against lefties, though it's worth noting that he hit .262 against southpaws in 2024 (42 at-bats), nearly matching the .264 he batted against right-handers.Source: Baltimore Orioles
2 days agoArizona Diamondbacks catching prospect Adrian Del Castillo (shoulder) was placed on the 7-day injured list with a shoulder injury. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but should expect him to miss at least a few weeks of action at Triple-A. Del Castillo received a brief taste of the majors last season and performed quite well. He posted an elite .313/.368/.526 slash line with five doubles and four long balls. During this brief stint, he generated a strong 11.5 percent barrel rate but generated a weak .215 xBA, which suggests he could face some regression when he returns to the big leagues. When he returns to action at Triple-A, fantasy managers should monitor his production at the top level of the minor leagues, as he should see time in the majors later in the summer.Source: Alex Weiner
2 days agoKansas City Royals outfielder Kyle Isbel will get Monday off as the team starts a three-game road series against the Milwaukee Brewers. Isbel started all three outings for the Royals in center field for their opening series with the Cleveland Guardians, but he'll get a breather to start the week. Maikel Garcia will slot into center field and bat ninth versus Milwaukee. The California native is 2-for-8 thus far with a double, single, two runs scored, and two strikeouts on the young season. He'll likely be back in the lineup over the next few days.Source: Kansas City Royals
2 days agoKansas City Royals second baseman Jonathan India (head) is back in the team's lineup on Monday at third base, batting leadoff against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 28-year-old's status for Monday was unclear after a 98-MPH Emmanuel Clase fastball hit him in the head on Sunday night. However, it appears he's avoided a severe injury and will occupy the hot corner to start a three-game series against the Brewers on the road. India has done well as a table-setter for the Royals thus far, compiling a .429 OBP across 11 at-bats (three hits). He'll continue to be a viable source of runs as long as he's batting at the top of Kansas City's order.Source: Kansas City Royals
2 days agoAthletics first base prospect Nick Kurtz has posted a stellar .435/.538/.909 slash line with two doubles and one home run during his first three games at Triple-A. He has tallied at least one hit in each contest and went deep for the first time on March 29. Kurtz is viewed as one of the top prospects in the A's system. He was drafted with the fourth pick in last year's MLB Draft out of Wake Forest. In spring training, Kurtz posted a .261/.452/.522 slash line with two long balls and a 7:5 BB:K. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his development as the 22-year-old should be in the mix to make his MLB debut this season. Currently, Tyler Soderstrom occupies first base for the Athletics, but if Kurtz continues to hit at this level, he will eventually earn a promotion.Source: MiLB.com
3 days agoBaltimore Orioles third base prospect Coby Mayo went 3-for-5 with a home run during their victory over the Durham Bulls on Sunday. After going 0-for-7 at the plate during his first two games of the season, Mayo was able to break his slump on Sunday. In this contest, Mayo tallied six total bases, brought in two runs, and scored one himself. The 23-year-old was competing for a spot on the Opening Day roster but was unable to find his footing during camp. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his progression at Triple-A, as he should be in the mix to return to the big leagues early in the campaign. Last season, Mayo posted a .098/.196/.098 slash line across his first 17 games in the majors. However, at Triple-A, he posted an elite .287/.364/.562 slash line. If he continues to hit for power at Triple-A, he will be worth stashing in deeper formats.Source: MiLB.com
3 days agoColorado Rockies starting pitching prospect Chase Dollander tallied five strikeouts across four innings of work in his Triple-A debut. He allowed six hits, two walks, and one earned run. Dollander was competing for a spot in the starting rotation in Colorado but fell just short in the competition. However, the former ninth overall pick may not need much time in Triple-A if he continues to produce at this level. Last summer, Dollander made his professional debut and progressed quite quickly through the Colorado pipeline. He opened the season at High-A and logged 70 innings to the tune of a 2.83 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP. Then at Double-A, Dollander posted a 2.25 ERA with a 1.10 WHIP across 48 innings. He is worth stashing in all standard formats as he should push for an early MLB debut this season.Source: MiLB.com
3 days agoThe Baltimore Orioles have placed outfielder Colton Cowser (thumb) on the 10-day injured list due to a fracture in his left thumb. In a corresponding move, the Orioles promoted outfielder Dylan Carlson to the MLB roster. Cowser sustained this injury during their contest against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Cowser apparently injured his thumb when sliding for a base. He was replaced by a pinch hitter in the ninth inning of that game. Fantasy managers should continue monitoring his status but expect him to remain sidelined for the foreseeable future. While Cowser remains sidelined, fantasy managers should expect Ramon Laureano and Heston Kjerstad to see an increase in opportunities in the corner outfield spots. Kjerstad got the starting nod on March 29, suggesting he may be slightly higher than Laureano on the depth chart. Carlson will likely only have a depth role in the outfield.Source: Jacob Calvin Meyer
3 days agoSeattle Mariners young star, Julio Rodriguez, blasted his first home run of the 2025 season on Sunday against left-handed pitcher JP Sears. His two-run home run proved to be enough to help the Mariners secure a 2-1 victory and split their four-game series against the Athletics to open the 2025 campaign. Rodriguez is off to a slow start to the year, going 2-for-12 with three walks, two stolen bases, and six strikeouts, so hopefully, this home run can get him some confidence going into their next series against the Detroit Tigers. Fantasy managers can continue to start Rodriguez in all formats, as the 24-year-old is looking to bounce back from a poor 2024 season, where he only hit 20 home runs compared to 28 and 32 in 2022 and 2023, respectively.Source: ESPN
