The left-hander made it through 6 1/3 innings, allowing five runs while striking out 13 batters. But after tossing 103 pitches, he was visited by the trainer and removed from the game. Valdez has been burdened by an ankle issue of late, recently keeping him out of the All-Star game. It's unknown what exactly bothered the 28-year-old.
