MLB Trade Deadline Recent Moves

7/31: RHP Griffin Jax is being traded to Tampa Bay in exchange for RHP Taj Bradley to Minnesota

True to their word, Minnesota is moving nearly everyone in that bullpen. With Jax on the move, Cole Sands could suddenly be the closer in Minnesota. Justin Topa and Kody Funderburk could play key setup roles as well. Stay flexible out there.

Meanwhile, Bradley gets a fresh start with the Twins, who should need him for some major-league starts with Pablo Lopez and David Festa on the IL.

7/31: RHP Louis Varland and 1B Ty France move to Toronto in exchange for LHP Kendry Rojas (TOR's No. 5 prospect) and OF Alan Roden

Varland has had a strong year and had a moment where he was in line to inherit Minnesota's closing role, but he and Jax were moved almost simultaneously. He'll join a crowded bullpen in Toronto, where only deep-leaguers interested in holds will find value. France should fill a depth role for Toronto, while Roden could find some MLB at-bats down the road in 2025, but may need to prove himself in the minors first.

7/31: RHP Camilo Doval is being acquired by the Yankees; San Francisco is receiving RHP Trystan Vrieling (NYY's No. 19 prospect), C/3B Jesus Rodriguez (No. 25), 1B/3B Parks Harber, and LHP Carlos De La Rosa.

This craters Doval's fantasy value and should elevate Randy Rodriguez or Ryan Walker into the closer's role. Rodriguez has been far sharper, but they may covet him in the fireman role, whereas Walker has closing experience going back to last year.

7/31: RHP Dustin May heading to Boston; 1B/OF James Tibbs III (Boston's No. 5 prospect) and OF Zach Ehrhard (No. 27) go to the Dodgers

The Dodgers have moved on from May, who has failed to rebound well from major injury with a 4.85 ERA (4.70 FIP) and 1.35 WHIP over 104 innings. May will be a free agent after this year, so it's a surprising move as Boston continues to churn arms in the hopes of kindling a spark. Most fantasy managers can move along with their day, as hitter-friendly Fenway shouldn't do May any favors.

7/31: LHP Nestor Cortes is being traded to the Padres, with OF Brandon Lockridge going to Milwaukee

Cortes has much to prove to fantasy managers before getting back on the mixed-league radar, but if San Diego doesn't need him to work deep into games with that insane bullpen at the ready, then he could go five strong down the stretch. And it means one fewer arm in Milwaukee to contend for starts as we await the return of Logan Henderson.

7/31: RHP Shelby Miller (IL) and LHP Jordan Montgomery (IL) are heading to the Brewers; Arizona gets a player to be named later or cash considerations

Miller's move should keep the door open for Kevin Ginkel to run with the closer's role for the rest of the season. When Miller does return for the Brewers, he'll slide behind Trevor Megill and Abner Uribe.

7/31: OF Mike Yastrzemski heads to Kansas City in exchange for RHP Yunior Marte (KC's No. 2o prospect)

Yaz will help the Royals as a steady corner outfielder, though he can't be thrilled about going from one pitcher's park to another. At least he no longer has to hit into Triple's Alley. But he's hitting .231, the same as he did last year, so the appeal here is exclusive to deep AL-only leagues.

7/31: RHP Charlie Morton moves to Detroit; LHP Micah Ashman goes to Baltimore

Morton gives the Tigers an experienced arm who will help provide depth en route to a playoff spot. Morton will enter the rotation while Troy Melton heads to the bullpen, where his stuff should play up extremely well. It's bad news for Melton speculators in the short term, but Morton does have a 5.42 ERA, so the opportunity may come back around.

7/31: INF/OF Jose Caballero has been acquired by the Yankees in exchange for OF Everson Pereira and a player to be named later to Tampa Bay

This gives the Yankees a superutility man with league-leading speed (his 34 SB are tied for first). Between Caballero and Amed Rosario, they should feel comfortable depth-wise everywhere. Also, Caballero still has options remaining if the Yankees need to be flexible.

7/31: RHP Phil Maton is moving from St. Louis to Texas, with the Cardinals receiving LHP Mason Molina (TEX's No. 27 prospect) and RHP Skyler Hales (No. 28)

This opens up the St. Louis bullpen to a committee approach between left-hander JoJo Romero and the likes of Riley O'Brien and Gordon Graceffo. Romero has the most experience, but O'Brien has big whiffs, and Graceffo was named as a potential future save source during the day.

7/31: LHP Taylor Rogers is going to the Cubs; Pittsburgh receives OF Ivan Brethowr

This doesn't have any notable fantasy implications, though it is fascinating that Pittsburgh opted to hold onto Dennis Santana. Rejoice, Santana stashers. (Ryan Pressly was designated for assignment.)

7/31: RHP Adrian Houser is being acquired by Tampa Bay; the White Sox get INF Curtis Mead, RHP Ben Peoples, and RHP Duncan Davitt

Houser will now enjoy a winning environment in Tampa Bay, while Mead could see regular opportunity for the White Sox if he performs. Everyone stays in the AL, so no considerations to be made on that front.

7/31: INF/OF Willi Castro moving to the Cubs; Minnesota receives RHP Ryan Gallagher (CHC's No. 8 prospect) and RHP Sam Armstrong

Castro gives the Cubs a versatile bat that has been on a 20 HR/20 SB pace when healthy. Fantasy managers in NL-only leagues will be happy to scoop up his modest power-speed contributions from within the Cubbies' lineup. His superutility defense means no one Cub is at risk of outright losing their job, but he can back up pretty much everyone on the field, including Pete Crow-Armstrong.

As for the Twins, this only furthers the likelihood that their young infielders, such as Luke Keaschall and Brooks Lee, will get sustained opportunity down the stretch.

7/31: 3B/OF Miguel Andujar is headed to Cincinnati in exchange for RHP Kenya Huggins (CIN's No. 22 prospect) to the A's

Andujar has delighted with a .298/.329/.436 triple slash and a lowly 13% strikeout rate over 231 plate appearances for the A's, who likely go back to giving Gio Urshela most of the reps at third base as Max Muncy heals.

Cincinnati gets another corner infield/outfield bat to be flexible with around the diamond. It'll be interesting to see how playing time gets spread out between Ke'Bryan Hayes, Santiago Espinal, Noelvi Marte, and Andujar.

7/31: RHP Merrill Kelly is being traded to Texas; LHP Kohl Drake (TEX's No. 5 prospect), LHP Mitch Bratt (No. 9), and RHP David Hagaman (No. 13) go to Arizona

Kelly has a 3.22 ERA/1.06 WHIP over 128 2/3 IP thus far and helps stabilize a Rangers rotation that is relying on Kumar Rocker and Jack Leiter, with uncharted waters for Jacob deGrom's workload and a recent injury to Nathan Eovaldi.

Unfortunately for Arizona, it's unlikely we get an inspiring promotion from their crop of arms at this time. Neither Bryce Jarvis nor Yilber Diaz has looked sharp, while others not on the 40-man like Yu-Min Lin, Dylan Ray, and Spencer Giesting have also struggled.

Soon, either Drake or Bratt could step into rotation, as both of them hold ERAs in the low 3's with over a strikeout per inning in the minors this year. For now, it'll be Anthony DeSclafani stepping into Kelly's spot.

7/31: 1B/OF Ryan O'Hearn and OF Ramon Laureano are being traded to San Diego in exchange for LHP Boston Bateman (SD's No. 4 prospect), INF Cobb Hightower (No. 6), RHP Tyson Neighbors (No. 12), 1B/OF Victor Figueroa, RHP Tanner Smith, and INF Brandon Butterworth

This move would solve a couple of problems for the Padres, who wanted more offense in the outfield while getting a potent left-handed bat that can play first. Their batting order had been top-heavy but now the depth is getting impressive.

O'Hearn has mauled right-handed pitching, with 13 home runs and a .294 average against over 255 at-bats. Meanwhile, since Laureano returned to action on June 6, he's hitting .303 with a 150 wRC+ thanks to 10 doubles and nine homers. This move, along with the small trade for catcher Freddy Fermin, gives them a respectable lineup across the board. No one can accuse the organization of not trying!

We must point out that, according to Statcast's 2025-only Park Factors, Baltimore is the fourth-best offensive park and Petco ranks 25th. If this paves the way for guys like Coby Mayo to get more runway, then fantasy managers must be aware!

(San Diego also acquired INF Will Wagner from the Blue Jays in exchange for their No. 26 prospect, catcher Brandon Valenzuela.)

7/31: SS Carlos Correa is returning to Houston; LHP Matt Mikulski goes to Minnesota (Minnesota only has $33M left of the $103M owed to Correa as a result)

Putting shortstop next to Correa throws off the point of the trade, as Jon Morosi reports that Correa has agreed to play third base for Houston. This solves the issue at the hot corner that cropped up when Isaac Paredes suffered his severe hamstring injury. Other major-leaguers are reportedly part of this deal as well.

This increases the job security for guys like Brooks Lee, and it gives the rehabbing Luke Keaschall a better chance at finding playing time in the near future. He was a lightning rod in his brief MLB showing before suffering a fractured forearm.

As an aside, Houston is also "trying hard" for one of Merrill Kelly, Dylan Cease, or Sandy Alcantara, according to Jon Heyman. And Houston is also said to be paying much of Correa's contract, per Jon Morosi.

7/31: OF Jesus Sanchez is moving to Houston for RHP Ryan Gusto, INF Chase Jaworsky (HOU's No. 13 prospect), and potentially OF Esmil Valencia

Sanchez brings strong bat speed metrics and an 11.8% barrel rate to Houston, where he should enjoy a superior offensive environment as a sneaky power-speed threat. The Astros needed a bigger lefty bat with Yordan Alvarez still on the mend.

Miami may still choose to platoon its right field situation, or they could give Heriberto Hernandez more reps. Prospect speculators should note that 24-year-old outfielder Jakob Marsee, who has 14 HRs and 47 SBs through 98 Triple-A games thus far, may get a chance to flash the wheels soon. (Update: Marsee has been scratched from Thursday's Triple-A lineup!)

7/31: OF Cedric Mullins is going to the Mets in exchange for RHP Anthony Nunez (NYM's No. 14 prospect), RHP Raimon Gomez (No. 30), and Chandler Marsh

Mullins got hot at the right time for his trade value, hitting .290 with three homers and seven doubles with six steals in 22 July games while making highlight plays in center field. It gives the Mets' pitchers an upgrade behind them, and now we wonder whether they'll find a trade for Starling Marte.

It seems Jeff McNeil and Tyrone Taylor will be pushed out the most, but McNeil can still find reps in the infield as Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio continue to grow.

7/31: RHP David Bednar is reportedly moving to the Yankees, with C/1B Rafael Flores (NYY's No. 8 prospect), C/1B Edgleen Perez (No. 14), and OF Brian Sanchez going to Pittsburgh

This is a rough blow to Bednar's fantasy teams. While he lines up to be the Yankees' closer for 2026 if they don't reach any new deals with Devin Williams or Luke Weaver, it does little to help redraft managers right now. We'd expect Williams to retain the ninth inning as the incumbent, but perhaps Aaron Boone won't utilize cemented roles.

The Pirates should move Dennis Santana back into the ninth, but he remains a strong trade candidate, and the newly acquired Taylor Rogers could also be dealt. Santana, Rogers, or Isaac Mattson could find themselves as a key waiver add by the end of the day.

7/31: OF Alex Call is moving to the Dodgers; RHP Eriq Swan (LAD's No. 16 prospect) and RHP Sean Paul Linan (No. 20) head to Washington

Jeff Passan reports that Call is headed to L.A., who likely wanted some depth after moving James Outman from the system. Call hits lefties well, has four years of team control left, and sports plus plate discipline to go with a strong arm and solid defensive range. The Nationals are calling up Robert Hassell III for now, with Dylan Crews' activation on the horizon.

7/31: RHP Jake Bird acquired by the Yankees; 2B Roc Riggio (NYY's No. 10 prospect) and LHP Ben Shields (No. 28) headed to Colorado

The Yankees continue to bolster their bullpen depth at the deadline. The 29-year-old righty has curious splits for a Colorado arm, though. Through 29 IP at Coors, he has a 2.48 ERA with a 38:9 K:BB compared to a 7.40 ERA (24:14 K:BB) over 24 1/3 IP on the road.

We expect the Yanks to unlock some greater consistency for him with that high-strikeout stuff, much like they did with Fernando Cruz. That said, Bird will be locked into the middle innings and unlikely to make any fantasy impact.

7/31: RHP Mason Miller and LHP JP Sears are being acquired by San Diego in exchange for SS Leodalis De Vries (SD's No. 1 prospect), RHP Braden Nett (No. 3), RHP Henry Baez (No. 13), and RHP Eduarniel Nunez (No. 17)

Wow, the late rumor from last night turned into a massive swap, with De Vries being the overall No. 3 prospect in the game per MLB Pipeline and Miller being an elite closer with team control through 2029, who San Diego could convert back into a starter.

It appears the Padres are trying to turn around and trade Robert Suarez, which should leave Miller atop their leverage ladder, with Jason Adam, Adrian Morejon, and Jeremiah Estrada as the familiar three-headed setup dragon. Closer speculators will want to circle Jack Perkins, Sean Newcomb, and Michael Kelly for the A's at this time. And Sears gets a quiet park upgrade in getting away from Sacramento.

7/31: RHP Brock Stewart heads back to the Dodgers, return pending but reportedly includes OF James Outman

Stewart gets a reunion with the Dodgers, who will look to bolster an injury-riddled bullpen with the 33-year-old's 2.38 ERA/1.09 WHIP/29.5% K rate. He's unlikely to play into the ninth inning for the talented LAD group, but those who value holds should enjoy the move. It's another arm gone for Minnesota, which may still deal Griffin Jax later in the day.

7/31: OF Harrison Bader has been traded to the Phillies in exchange for OF Hendry Mendez (PHI's No. 12 prospect) and RHP Geremy Villoria

This gives Philly the right-handed bat and defensive upgrade in the outfield that they were looking for. One would assume that it takes them out of the Luis Robert Jr. hunt, even if the move doesn't do much for the fantasy markets.

Some NL-only managers will be happy to get an outfield option in a potent Phillies lineup, as he sports 12 HRs with 10 SBs in roughly 300 plate appearances thus far. The Twins then free up some time for their younger outfielders, with the return of Byron Buxton (ribs) ideally not far off.

7/31: RHP Kyle Finnegan is going to the Tigers, with Washington receiving RHP Josh Randall (DET's No. 15 prospect) and RHP R.J. Sales.

It's possible that Detroit uses Finnegan in the ninth, but the 4.38 ERA with a 32:14 K:BB across 39 innings isn't inspiring next to Will Vest's 51:15 K:BB over 46 1/3 IP. This is about as good a chance at the ninth as Finnegan had among contending suitors.

For Washington, it looks like Jose A. Ferrer and Cole Henry are the top lefty and righty remaining to tackle save opportunities. Ferrer is the preferred option with a 3.07 FIP and 2.98 SIERA underneath the 4.78 ERA.

7/31: RHP Shane Bieber is moving to Toronto in exchange for RHP Khal Stephen (TOR's No. 5 prospect)

The Blue Jays are gambling on Bieber's health holding up through a postseason push, with an in-form Bieber giving them a true No. 1 arm amidst the current rotation of solid arms that lack an "ace" archetype. This isn't too surprising given Toronto's willingness to bring in Max Scherzer's health profile. We'll note that Rogers Centre is more of a hitter-neutral park compared to Progressive Field's pitcher-friendly confines, but it shouldn't be a massive swing.

7/30: 3B Eugenio Suarez is heading to Seattle; Arizona gets 1B Tyler Locklear (SEA's No. 9 prospect), RHP Hunter Cranton (No. 16), and RHP Juan Burgos (No. 17)

One of the bigger trade dominoes has fallen here. Suarez is reuniting with the Mariners (and Josh Naylor) as Seattle is truly pushing for the playoffs. However, there's no ignoring the fantasy impact on Suarez getting stuck back in T-Mobile Park. (Ken Rosenthal reports that Boston was in the mix, thinking to put Suarez at first base.)

He still has plenty of power, but he produced a .760 OPS with a .229 average in 166 career games there. Compare that with a .928 OPS and .278 average at Chase Field, and you can see that expectations may have to come down.

Locklear has been raking at Triple-A (at age 24), produced a .316/.401/.542 triple slash with 19 home runs and 18 steals over 98 games. He immediately becomes intriguing in the aforementioned Chase Field hitting environment.

7/30: RHP Andrew Kittredge is reportedly heading to the Cubs, return pending.

Kittredge had a brief blip of fantasy hope in Baltimore's bullpen, but now he'll help set Daniel Palencia up in Wrigley. For now, Yennier Cano and Keegan Akin are the save-relevant relievers for the Orioles while Felix Bautista is on the IL.

7/30: RHP Zack Littell moves to the Reds; Dodgers get LHP Adam Serinowski (CIN's No. 10 prospect), C Ben Rortvedt, and RHP Paul Gervase; Rays receive C Hunter Feduccia, RHP Brian Van Belle

As far as fantasy managers are concerned, Littell heading to the Great American Ball Park is a bad move. Those in NL-only leagues who need a starter will be happy to see him enter the pool, but his reliance on fly balls could make this a dangerous relationship.

7/30: RHP Michael Soroka acquired by the Cubs in exchange for OF Christian Franklin (CHC's No. 14 prospect), INF Ronny Cruz (No. 13)

Soroka enters a Chicago rotation that has been searching for answers at the back of the rotation ever since Justin Steele went down. He'll likely slide into the No. 5 spot, where Ben Brown has been the most recent to tread water. With Jameson Taillon still injured, Soroka also helps with any potential workload management plan for Cade Horton.

7/30: INF Ramon Urias heads to Houston for RHP Twine Palmer going to Baltimore

The trade is a clear reaction to Isaac Paredes' lengthy hamstring injury, which sounds like it'll shelve him for most of the regular season. Urias has a career-high 45% pull rate that could play well with the Crawford Boxes, but surely it is his plus glove that is the main draw for the Astros. In Baltimore, this removes one obstacle to Coby Mayo getting more consistent playing time. Perhaps a Ryan O'Hearn trade is next?

7/30: RHP Ryan Helsley is moving to the Mets; St. Louis receives INF Jesus Baez (NYM's No. 8 prospect), RHP Nate Dohm (No. 14), RHP Frank Elissalt

Multiple reports have surfaced that the Mets are acquiring Helsley from the Cardinals to create a superpen capable of hanging with any postseason opponent. While Helsley has an uncharacteristic 1.39 WHIP, the 3.00 ERA remains steady (3.51 FIP, 3.31 SIERA) as he becomes an elite setup man and hedge to Edwin Diaz.

Recent moves for Helsley, Tyler Rogers, and Gregory Soto make sure that no one can question the team's goal and their effort in addressing a weakness. Phil Maton is now the de facto closer in St. Louis, but he's another trade candidate on an expiring deal. Keep an eye on JoJo Romero, Riley O'Brien, and Andre Granillo there.

7/30: RHP Jhoan Duran is traded to Philadelphia in exchange for RHP Mick Abel (PHI's No. 6 prospect) and C Eduardo Tait (No. 4)

Minnesota has indeed traded star closer Jhoan Duran, who has a 2.01 ERA and 1.18 WHIP to go with 16 saves this year, to the Philadelphia Phillies, who land a true bullpen anchor. The move allows guys like Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering to settle back into setup roles, with Jose Alvarado potentially siphoning some southpaw saves when he returns.

In Minnesota, Griffin Jax is now the man, but we have another day for the Twins to move him (or Louis Varland) as well. Jax has a 2.01 FIP and 1.72 xFIP behind the 4.50 ERA thanks to a whopping 72 Ks in 46 IP, and is a top-10 RP. Abel should join the rotation and get a chance to prove himself in the new organization.

7/30: LHP Caleb Ferguson is traded from Pittsburgh to Seattle, with RHP Jeter Martinez (SEA's No. 13 prospect) going back to PIT

Ferguson holds a 3.74 ERA (3.14 FIP) over 43 1/3 IP this year, posting two wins and 10 holds for the Pirates. Before the trade, Seattle's only lefty was Gabe Speier, who has pitched exceptionally well in 2025, but they should enjoy having another southpaw to deploy.

This thins out Pittsburgh's 'pen behind David Bednar and Dennis Santana, which raises more suspicion for this writer that Taylor Rogers could play a relevant part down the stretch.

7/30: RHP Tyler Rogers is being acquired by the Mets; Giants receive Blade Tidwell (NYM's No. 10 prospect), Drew Gilbert (No. 12), and Jose Butto

The other Rogers brother is on the move! Rogers is 4-3 with 20 holds and a 1.80 ERA (2.35 SIERA) through 50 innings for the Giants and should give the Mets a reliable groundballer with elite control to deepen the bullpen behind Edwin Diaz. Those in saves leagues won't be affected here, while those with Solds (Saves+Holds) should enjoy more leads to defend.

Will the Giants wind up moving Camilo Doval later on? It'll be interesting to see whether San Francisco stretches Butto out as a starter or swingman in the final months.

7/30: 3B Ke'Bryan Hayes is moving to Cincinnati; Pittsburgh receives SS Sammy Stafura (CIN's No. 9 prospect) and LHP Taylor Rogers

Cincinnati's pitchers might be the biggest winners here with Hayes' league-leading glove manning the hot corner. The third baseman is only hitting .236 with two home runs over 100 games, so it is difficult to envision even the hitter-friendly Great American Ball Park breathing fantasy-caliber life into his bat. We'll see how they shuffle the infield around to keep Noelvi Marte's bat in the lineup.

It is likely that Pittsburgh will use someone like Jared Triolo or Liover Peguero at third for now. Fantasy managers will hope that Pittsburgh eventually clears up room for youngsters like Nick Yorke and Billy Cook to get MLB time. The move does deal a counterblow to the defensive expectations behind the likes of Paul Skenes and other pitchers.

Taylor Rogers could quietly become an arm of interest for the Pirates if both David Bednar and Dennis Santana are moved. He has closing experience (two seasons with 30-plus saves) and holds a 2.45 ERA through 33 IP this year, though his walks are way up, and the sabermetric profile (4.12 FIP) is a bit scary. Those stashing Isaac Mattson can't ignore this new obstacle.

7/30: RHP Luis Garcia, LHP Andrew Chafin dealt to the Angels; LHP Jake Eder, 1B Sam Brown move to the Nationals

This is another low-stakes swap in terms of immediate fantasy impact, but it does affect a couple of things. For one, it means that Garcia is off the speculative list of Washington RPs to stash for after Kyle Finnegan moves, and it also means the Angels could quietly be buying? Neither Eder nor Brown has shown much to be excited about thus far.

7/30: RHP Tyler Kinley traded from Colorado to Atlanta in exchange for RHP Austin Smith

This shouldn't move many needles in 2025, but Kinley has always had strong swing-and-miss stuff that's been overshadowed by Coors inflating his ratios. This year, hitters have a .608 OPS against him on the road but an .812 mark at home. He has a club option for 2026 and could play into Atlanta's future plans with a good showing down the stretch.

7/30: OF Austin Slater acquired by Yankees for RHP Gage Ziehl (NYY's No. 18 prospect)

Slater gives the Yankees another option to deploy against left-handed pitching (career .798 OPS vs. LHP, .642 vs. RHP), but he's unlikely to be a full-time factor in a crowded lineup given his deficiencies against righties. Those in deep AL-only leagues may perk up if in need of a fifth outfielder, but this is a low-level alert unless they move someone like Trent Grisham.

7/29: RHP Seranthony Dominguez and cash considerations are traded to Toronto for RHP Juaron Watts-Brown (TOR's No. 10 prospect)

Dominguez looked like Baltimore's interim closer with Felix Bautista on the injured list and the prior trades of Bryan Baker and Gregory Soto, but the O's are keeping the line moving. He'll now help set Jeff Hoffman up with his 30.9% K rate, offering the Canadian contenders an experienced setup arm with Yimi Garcia on the IL.

For fantasy managers, this likely leaves Andrew Kittredge and Keegan Akin as the righty-lefty tandem for the ninth inning, with Yennier Cano as the less-enticing option that we hope lands in the seventh or eighth inning. We've only just begun!

7/28: C Danny Jansen is traded to Milwaukee, Tampa Bay receives INF Jadher Areinamo (MIL's No. 24 prospect)

Those in AL/NL-only formats will be affected by the Brewers gaining catcher depth with Jansen, who has hit better lately (~.800 OPS over the last three months), but will lose out on a chance to secure everyday playing time via trade.

The Rays then turned around and traded for Nick Fortes from Miami, who is more glove than bat and is probably in a left/right platoon with Matt Thaiss, which won't be fantasy relevant. The move only signals a greater commitment to Agustin Ramirez at catcher for the Marlins.

7/28: RHP Chris Paddack and RHP Randy Dobnak are acquired by Detroit; C Enrique Jimenez goes to Minnesota

Paddack is a low-cost move for Detroit to shore up the back of their rotation, which has lost arms such as Jackson Jobe and Sawyer Gipson-Long, with others like Alex Cobb injured from the preseason. This could signal a move to the bullpen for Troy Melton moving forward. Paddack's 4.95 ERA is unlikely to suddenly make a fantasy impact for the Tigers, but he did just hold the Dodgers to one run alongside eight strikeouts over six strong frames.

As for Minnesota, this should kick off a few seller trades. Bailey Ober is slated to return from the injured list this week and can slide back into the rotation, with Pablo Lopez and David Festa still out for at least a few more weeks. Travis Adams may soon return after being optioned, but he and fellow prospect arm Marco Raya have not impressed thus far.

7/28: RHP Carlos Carrasco moves to the Braves for a player to be named later or cash considerations

The recent spree of injuries to Atlanta's starting pitcher crop has necessitated a move for a major-league-ready arm, but the 38-year-old Carrasco is only fantasy-relevant in 2025 for stacking against. He has a 5.91 ERA in 32 IP after posting 5.64 and 6.80 ERAs in 2024 and '23, respectively. To his credit, he has thrown three straight quality starts of seven innings at Triple-A, but we've seen enough by now.

7/27: RHP Erick Fedde (and cash) heads to Atlanta for a player to be named later or cash considerations

This is a clear reaction to Grant Holmes' elbow injury, which puts him on the shelf with Chris Sale (ribs), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow), and Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder). Fedde had been serviceable this year until late June hit. He then gave up at least six runs in three of five starts, and 26 combined runs in just 17 2/3 IP.

Perhaps the Braves have identified a fix, but they're surely desperate and running on fumes to field a rotation at the moment. And for St. Louis, Fedde had already been designated for assignment, but it does solidify the rotation opportunity for Michael McGreevy.

7/26: INF Amed Rosario dealt to the Yankees; Washington receives RHP Clayton Beeter (NYY's No. 20 prospect) and OF Browm Martinez

Rosario gives the Yankees a versatile depth piece who has bashed left-handed pitching (.299 AVG, .816 OPS) in line with his career norms. He hasn't gotten to play much in Washington and should remain platooned in the Bronx.

This gives the Yanks a late option to insert southpaw masher if the newly-acquired Ryan McMahon gets countered by a bullpen move. Rosario could also pick up some outfield reps in the wake of Aaron Judge's IL (elbow) placement.

Beeter has exceptional swing-and-miss stuff, but cannot get away from control issues. As a 26-year-old, Beeter has a 17.6% walk rate across the 23 2/3 IP in the minors thus far.

7/26: OF Randal Grichuk goes to Kansas City; Arizona acquires RHP Andrew Hoffmann

Grichuk should slide into corner-outfield reps with Jac Caglianone headed to the 10-day injured list (hamstring). There's little direct impact beyond those in deeper AL-only leagues, as the 33-year-old holds a .750 OPS with five of his seven HRs in 121 plate appearances against left-handed pitching. But if it frees up more designated hitter space for Adrian Del Castillo's bat in Arizona, then we're happy.

7/25: 3B Ryan McMahon traded to the Yankees for LHP Griffin Herring (NYY's No. 8 prospect) and RHP Josh Grosz (No. 21)

McMahon has had an inconsistent season with his worst batting average (.217) since the shortened 2020 campaign, but has still mashed 16 home runs in 100 games. Hone in on 39 games since June 7, and you get 10 HRs with an .820 OPS. Unfortunately, there is also a 35.5% strikeout rate. But he also has an overall average exit velocity in the 98th percentile (94 mph), with a strong 12.9% barrel rate on top.

Plus, McMahon has 4 OAA (Outs Above Average) at third, which is valuable to the Yanks and their pitchers, even if it isn't a fantasy category for most of us. The question becomes whether the Yankees can get McMahon situated to hitting away from Coors quickly. This also narrows the Eugenio Suarez market down.

Currently, he has an .856 OPS at home and a horrid .589 OPS on the road, but we know that no longer getting whiplash from going back and forth can help create a routine. Yankee Stadium also boasts that friendly right-field wall for left-handed bats.

The Rockies should get Thairo Estrada off the injured list today or tomorrow, with Orlando Arcia and Kyle Farmer as fill-in candidates for third base. We are unlikely to find an actionable replacement there.

7/25: LHP Gregory Soto is dealt to the Mets in exchange for RHP Wellington Aracena (NYM's No. 19 prospect) and RHP Cameron Foster

Soto joins Brooks Raley as the key left-handers in a Mets bullpen that requires further reinforcements behind Edwin Diaz. This keeps Soto out of any closing conversations as long as Diaz is healthy, but it does narrow down Baltimore's bullpen.

The southpaw is the second RP to be dealt by Baltimore this month (Bryan Baker), and they may not be done. These trades and Felix Bautista's shoulder injury should have Seranthony Dominguez in the short-term closer's chair over Yennier Cano and Andrew Kittredge, but any of those three could be shipped off next. Stay tuned!

7/24: 1B Josh Naylor moves from Arizona to Seattle in exchange for LHP Brandyn Garcia (Seattle’s No. 13 prospect) and RHP Ashton Izzi (No. 16)

It's fitting that Jerry Dipoto is part of kicking off the final week before the trade deadline! Naylor will slide into the heart of Seattle's order, likely hitting fifth after Julio Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh, and Randy Arozarena in the 2-3-4 slots. While it's a park downgrade for Naylor, it helps lift up the run+RBI potential for other Seattle hitters.

For Arizona, it could free up space for Blaze Alexander or a Tim Tawa promotion, but that's low stakes at the moment. It may help Adrian Del Castillo get a handful more DH reps. More important is the sell signal shining to the rest of the league, with players like Eugenio Suarez, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Merrill Kelly, and Zac Gallen on the line.

7/10: RHP Bryan Baker goes from Baltimore to Tampa Bay for a compensatory pick

The Orioles have several relievers that could become impact arms elsewhere, but Baker had control left, so this was a surprising first domino. It’s unlikely he picks up saves in Tampa, but we have to monitor any arm that the Rays target.

6/15: 3B Rafael Devers is traded from Boston to San Francisco in exchange for RHP Kyle Harrison and RHP Jordan Hicks (plus two prospects in James Tibbs, Jose Bello)

Deadline is a loose term, right? The relationship blew past “strained,” and this gets his contract off of Boston’s books and gives San Fran a slugger, though he’s only hitting .225/.344/.363 with a 32.3% K rate in his first 22 games.

Will the Red Sox reach an extension with Alex Bregman for the next hot corner chapter, or will they be forced elsewhere? With injuries to Liam Hendriks and Justin Slaten, Hicks becomes an important bullpen piece, especially if they flip the sell switch on Aroldis Chapman rather than buy.

Latest MLB Trade Deadline Rumors

7/31: Katie Woo says that Phil Maton is expected to be the final trade that the Cardinals make at the deadline, with Brendan Donovan, Alec Burleson, Lars Nootbaar, and others expected to stick around. Throw your STL bullpen darts appropriately!

7/31: Ken Rosenthal highlighted that the Yankees and Pirates are in discussions regarding David Bednar, who would give the Yankees a set closer moving into 2026, with Luke Weaver and Devin Williams set to become free agents.

7/31: Mark Feinsand is passing along that Luis Robert Jr. is unlikely to be traded, with the team seemingly trending towards picking up his 2026 option instead.

7/31: Jon Morosi reports that a Steven Kwan trade is seen as "increasingly likely."

7/31: Spencer Jones is within Miami's asking price from the Yankees for either Sandy Alcantara or Edward Cabrera, according to Jon Morosi.

7/31: The Cubs are in on MacKenzie Gore, per Jon Heyman. He also reports that the Phillies, Padres, Reds, and others are a fit for Ramon Laureano, who could be seen as a fallback for those in pursuit of Luis Robert Jr. or Steven Kwan.

7/31: Francys Romero reports that trade talks surrounding Yandy Diaz have stalled out, as Tampa Bay is holding onto a high asking price given their proximity to postseason eligibility. Brandon Lowe also isn't expected to move at this time.

7/31: Bryan Hoch says that the Yankees have been discussing a Sandy Alcantara trade, with Mark Feinsand reiterating that the Astros are still in the mix for Alcantara and Dylan Cease.

7/31: While some have said that the Mason Miller trade will spark moves for Robert Suarez and Dylan Cease, others like Jon Heyman and Bob Nightengale have cautioned that the Miller trade doesn't increase the likelihood of those moves happening.

7/30: Mason Miller did not appear for the A's, despite the team holding a 5-3 lead in the ninth inning. They stuck with Jack Perkins, and after the game, Mark Kotsay simply said that "Mason was unavailable tonight. That's all I can say." Well then!

7/30: It seems that Pittsburgh is going to hold onto Mitch Keller through the deadline, per multiple reports.

7/30: Francys Romero says that the Mets and Phillies are the two frontrunners in the Luis Robert Jr. market.

7/30: Sean Murphy is sticking in Atlanta to remain in a 1A/1B situation with Drake Baldwin. This is frustrating for fantasy teams who wanted to see both of them get more playing time split apart, but if Atlanta keeps the DH spot relatively free, then it'll be okay. Is a Marcell Ozuna trade coming?

7/30: Mark Bowman says that Raisel Iglesias is far more likely to be moved than Pierce Johnson, which could make Johnson, Dylan Lee, and Tyler Kinley of interest in a couple of days!

7/30: Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies and Red Sox are "prominently in" on Jhoan Duran, with the Yankees, Mets, Mariners, and others "also in [the] mix." Griffin Jax has to be stashed in all formats right now.

7/30: Bruce Levine says that the Cubs are among the contenders interested in acquiring Shane Bieber, who recently had a great rehab start in front of many scouts. Mark Feinsand and others have highlighted that the Guardians appear motivated to move both Bieber and Steven Kwan. Jon Heyman says the Dodgers, Padres, and Reds are among those pursuing Kwan.

7/30: Mark Feinsand reports that the Eugenio Suarez market is starting to narrow, with the Cubs, Mariners, Phillies, and Tigers as the frontrunners.

7/30: Jon Morosi was on MLB Network and said that he believes the Yankees will land one of Sandy Alcantara, Edward Cabrera, Zac Gallen, or Merrill Kelly.

7/30: Michael Schwab piggybacked Jon Heyman's reports of a Carlos Correa trade by noting that the shortstop would only waive his no-trade clause for a reunion with Houston. The Astros should get Jeremy Pena back from his rib injury later this week, but they need more infield help with Isaac Paredes likely out for the season with a hamstring injury.

7/30: Jon Morosi has passed along that the Giants are open to trading their relievers, with a Camilo Doval move of obvious interest to us. Randy Rodriguez could be the big winner, as Ryan Walker still hasn't looked consistent over the last month.

7/29: Jon Morosi is connecting Toronto with Pittsburgh in terms of either David Bednar or Dennis Santana. While Jeff Hoffman got a nice contract and has fared well enough in between HRs for Toronto, it's possible that Bednar, or someone like Ryan Helsley, could take the ninth down the stretch if acquired. Bednar has also been connected to the Phillies, Rangers, and Tigers, per Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

7/29: Speaking of Helsley, MLB's Mark Feinsand is passing along that at least six teams are kicking the tires on the veteran closer. They are the Blue Jays, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Rangers, and Yankees.

7/29: Ken Rosenthal posted that Ryan O'Hearn is a name of interest to Milwaukee, who is still seeking a left-handed power bat.

7/28: Bob Nightengale reports that the Tigers want to strike a deal for Arizona's Eugenio Suarez before the team departs the city on Wednesday after a three-game set in the Motor City.

7/28: Mark Vientos is a heavily discussed name in trade talks, according to Andy Martino. The SNY reporter cites that relievers, a center fielder, and possibly a starting pitcher are the return targets. Brett Baty and Ronny Mauricio have played well enough lately to give the Mets confidence in exploring this avenue, supposedly.

7/28: Emmanuel Clase being placed on the non-disciplinary paid leave list as an MLB gambling investigation plays out is a clear blow to the trade chances. Whether it makes the Guardians more or less likely to deal someone like Cade Smith remains to be seen. There have been rumblings that it increases their odds of trading Steven Kwan and/or Shane Bieber.

7/27: Willi Castro's name has come up in trade talks, with the Yankees being mentioned in their pursuit of more middle infield help. Joel Sherman also named Jose Caballero, Taylor Walls, and the injured Ha-Seong Kim from Tampa Bay, Boston's David Hamilton, and a reunion with Pittsburgh's Isiah Kiner-Falefa. He led with saying that a right-handed bat who could play shortstop is the preference, with pitching still being the overall priority in the Bronx.

7/27: Per Ari Alexander, the Luis Robert Jr. market includes the Phillies, Padres, and the Mets as a "dark horse." He also noted that the Phillies had come up to him multiple times in connection with Robert, though the team's priority remains relief pitching.

He also said that the Cubs and Red Sox are interested in Miami's Edward Cabrera, and that Washington remains expected to trade closer Kyle Finnegan. The latter move would likely lead to Jose A. Ferrer and Luis Garcia snagging save chances.

7/24: The Dylan Cease market is starting to ramp up, with several reporters ranging from Jon Heyman to Buster Olney keying six teams to the starter. Sandy Alcantara has been floated as a name of interest that the Pads could target to fill a vacated rotation slot per MassLive's Sean McAdam, given the right-hander's strong history and potential team control through 2027.

McAdam also reported that the Red Sox "quickly rejected" a San Diego offer for Jarren Duran that included Dylan Cease, Ethan Salas, and another prospect. (This has since been pushed back on by several other sources.)

7/24: Oneil Cruz has come up in talks with the Yankees, according to Jon Heyman. Pittsburgh is still going to ask for a lot in return, but the Yanks are apparently kicking the tires on several sources of an offensive spark. Perhaps they're hoping that a change in venue to a contender and hitter-friendly park will jump-start Cruz's bat, much like Jazz Chisholm Jr. took off last year. Still, this sounds like a longshot bet for now.

7/24: The Athletic's Katie Woo and Will Sammon wrote up how, despite Ryan Helsley's desires to remain a Cardinal, the reliever acknowledged that "it's 90 percent I go, 10 percent I stay." With the team scuffling out of the All-Star break, losing 5-of-6 to Arizona and Colorado, the Cards seem most likely to sell after John Mozeliak, president of baseball operations, highlighted that the standings would guide the buy/sell lean.

Helsley and Phil Maton would be the strongest candidates to move. JoJo Romero has another year before becoming a free agent in 2027. We still like Riley O'Brien the most out of potential remaining RPs with fantasy upside.

7/23: Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that Arizona is expected to sell following a sweep at the hands of Houston. Jon Heyman said the team is "nearly resigned to selling," with Eugenio Suarez, Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, and Josh Naylor as the main attractions.

This could leave an opportunity for Tim Tawa, Jordan Lawlar, and Yilber Diaz across the diamond. And there would likely be some major-league-ready prospect coming back in a couple of those deals.

Suarez has recently been linked to the Astros by MLB's Brian McTaggart after Isaac Paredes suffered a significant right hamstring injury, which creates a glaring need. Cincinnati is another newer suitor on the list, according to C. Trent Rosecrans. Suarez's bat is a proven commodity at Great American Ball Park.

7/23: Pittsburgh is fielding calls on Oneil Cruz, but they'd surely have to be blown away by the return to pull the trigger. He's toolsy and only 26 years old, with top-flight power and speed, and boasts a cannon for an arm.

However, inconsistency and poor contact rates have hindered his progress. This feels unlikely, with the Pirates far more likely to move Mitch Keller, Ke'Bryan Hayes, and David Bednar.

7/23: Jarren Duran is being pursued by Kansas City, Philadelphia, and San Diego, amongst others, per The Athletic's Jim Bowden and Ken Rosenthal. Boston's other outfielders would receive solidified playing time, and someone like Seth Lugo could suffer at a more hitter-friendly venue in Fenway if he were part of the deal.

7/23: Dylan Cease is drawing interest from the Cubs, Mets, Red Sox, and Yankees, per reports from Buster Olney and Jon Heyman.

7/23: Jeff Passan has written that Emmanuel Clase would be a strong fit in Philadelphia, which is still looking to bolster its bullpen. The Athletic's Matt Gelb noted that RP remains the top need.

7/21: Eugenio Suarez is the belle of the deadline ball, with the Yankees, Cubs, Mariners, Brewers, and Tigers leading the pack of linked teams. Arizona should be further motivated to move the impending free agent with Jordan Lawlar in the wings at Triple-A.

The Yankees and Cubs would enjoy the biggest upgrades on paper, as they push through with Jorbit Vivas and Matt Shaw, respectively. Whoever misses on Suarez could pivot to Ke'Bryan Hayes, who is the best defensive third baseman in the game this year (but has been awful at the dish).

7/21: Jon Heyman says that Washington is getting pinged about MacKenzie Gore, who is 26 years old and is viewed as an anchor for the rebuilding rotation. Brad Lord is already joining the rotation as is, but Cade Cavalli will eventually get a crack as well.

However, if the new Nats regime decides that the rebuild didn’t do enough and there’s a chance to move the All-Star southpaw for a package that will be major-league ready before James Wood and CJ Abrams force star contracts, then perhaps we’ll see fireworks.

7/21: According to Jim Bowden, the Red Sox are still talking through Jarren Duran trades with teams due to the roster’s surplus of outfield talent. Philadelphia looks like the No. 1 suitor, with Boston seeking pitching (and first base). If they’re okay with rentals, then San Diego is a close No. 2 partner, but we’ll see!

A trade there would stabilize the playing time for outfielders such as Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu, and Roman Anthony. It would also end the social media calls for Duran to slide into second base at Fenway.

7/21: Per Ken Rosenthal, Mason Miller could be available if a contender is willing to pony up, despite public messaging being that he’s untouchable. Miller is near the top of a loaded closer class to be discussed as July ramps up, though few would come with team control through 2029!

If the A's do insert Jack Perkins into the rotation, then there isn't a massive RP add that we're holding our breath for. Sean Newcomb looked good for them, but it's unclear if they value him too much as a southpaw to lock him into the ninth. If Perkins remains in the 'pen and could get second-half saves, then we're all over that.

7/21: Bob Nightengale reports that St. Louis is still undecided on whether to move Ryan Helsley. But he also claims the team is unlikely to extend a qualifying offer after this year, so holding him seems silly amidst a skid, with at least five teams inquiring about the stopper. Phil Maton would be the hedge, though he is also likely to be dealt. Riley O'Brien and Andre Granillo (currently in the minors) are to be watched.

7/21: Closers, more closers, and a bunch of elite setup men are on the table. Teams that should go particularly hard for RP help are the Mets, Yankees, Dodgers, Tigers, Cubs, Reds, Red Sox, and Blue Jays.

7/21: Teams like St. Louis and Minnesota remain in No Man’s Land when it comes to buying or selling. The Orioles could be the most active team if they committed to a plan, but the Diamondbacks remain the highlighted sellers at this time.
