The Texas Rangers have signed veteran outfielder Ryan Ludwick to a minor league deal with an invitation to spring training. If added to the Rangers’ 40-man roster, Ludwick would earn a one-year, $1.75 million contract.
Ironically, the 36-year-old is returning to the team that he originally came up with, which was back in 2002. He was traded to the Indians during the following season, and has been on a total of six teams over his 13-year career, which also includes an All-Star berth in 2008 when he registered career highs of 37 HR and 113 RBI with the Cardinals.
Ludwick has declined in recent years and hit only .244/.308/.375, with just 9 HR and 45 RBI, last season with the Reds. He’s a career .260 hitter over 1,065 big league games.
