11 months agoArizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin (jaw) will miss around six weeks after being struck in the dugout by a foul ball this past Friday. Lin suffered multiple face fractures to his jaw that will require surgery. The team's No. 4 prospect is expected to make a full recovery, and the surgery is considered minor. On the season, Lin has struggled with a 7.00 ERA in four starts for Double-A Amarillo, but he does have 21 strikeouts in 18 innings with just five walks. The numbers should not be read into that much, as he is playing in a hitter-dominant Pacific Coast League. Lin, 20, has ascended at every level for the Diamondbacks, and his ability to limit damage and rack up strikeouts is a big reason why. It wouldn't be unreasonable to think that he could be in Arizona before the season is over, and he could be worth monitoring in dynasty leagues when he returns from his injury.--Daniel Burdeen - RotoBaller

8 months agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin was dominant on Wednesday as he tossed 6 1/3 shutout frames. He allowed just two hits and one free pass. He struck out five. This was the southpaw's second consecutive start of not allowing an earned run. Overall through his second extended look at Double-A ball, the 21-year-old has held a modest 4.71 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 17:49 BB:K. Lin has continued to improve as the season progresses, as he posted a 4.09 ERA in June and now carries a 3.05 ERA this month. Lin is ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the desert on MLB.com and should be nearing his Triple-A debut.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

9 months agoArizona Diamondbacks starting pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin has logged four starts at Double-A Amarillo since recovering from multiple face fractures that kept him sidelined for over a month. In these four outings, the 20-year-old held a 4.80 ERA, 2.00 WHIP, and a 9:18 BB:K ratio. Before the injury, the young southpaw showed similar struggles as he allowed four earned runs in two of his starts in April. Overall, Lin has had a rough time adjusting to Double-A bats over the past two summers after progressing through the lower levels fairly quickly. Lin is considered the best pitching prospect in the desert on MLB.com but may drop lower in the next rankings update due to the disappointing season he has had.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

12 months agoArizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin tallied 10 punchouts across five innings in a no-decision result on Thursday. Lin also allowed seven hits and one free pass, giving up four earned runs. The southpaw is ranked as the fourth-best prospect in the Diamondbacks system and is currently riding a 5.63 ERA and 1.63 WHIP across eight innings in Double-A this season. He has 15 total strikeouts. Lin posted much stronger numbers last season with a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 121 1/3 innings with 140 strikeouts across two levels of the minor leagues. If Lin can bounce back and deliver a few strong performances, he could earn a late-season call-up to the desert as the Diamondbacks eye another postseason run. Lin should be left for dynasty leagues for now, but if he reaches Triple-A, he could become worth stashing in deeper redraft formats.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

2 years agoArizona Diamondbacks pitching prospect Yu-Min Lin, now 19, signed with the club out of Taiwan in December 2021. He wasted no time transitioning to baseball in America, quickly emerging as one of the top prospects in Arizona's system. When facing batters, Lin sets the tone with a low-90s fastball. However, he really leaves his mark with his breaking and offspeed offerings. Lin's curveball has fantastic vertical bite, and the horizontal break on his slider is equally impressive. He also harnesses his changeup with ease, getting great fade and just enough arm-side movement to miss bats. If that wasn't enough, MLB Pipeline reports that he also deploys a "splitter and screwball-like pitch to keep hitters guessing." This past week, Lin had one of pro baseball's best outings in recent memory. He lasted five innings, striking out a whopping 13 batters. That would be impressive for a nine-inning game, but it's all the more impressive when you consider he faced just 17 batters and recorded 15 outs. His final stat line included just one walk, one hit, zero runs, and the no-decision. Lin has emerged as one of the best strikeout throwers in Minor League Baseball as a teenager. Just imagine the impact he could have in a few short years. Don't be surprised if the lanky left-hander is a hot fantasy commodity in the future.--Andersen Pickard - RotoBaller
