Yu Darvish Throws Bullpen, Still A Ways Away
3 months agoSan Diego Padres right-hander Yu Darvish (elbow) said the most he's thrown while away from the team is two simulated innings, so he's still a ways away from returning to the major-league starting rotation. However, Darvish said he feels healthy, and his placement on the injured list was "a matter of ramping up" after all the time off. He was able to throw a 27-pitch bullpen session at Petco Park on Friday before the game against the New York Mets. The 38-year-old veteran Japanese starter initially went on the IL with a groin injury before developing an elbow injury. Darvish was activated from the restricted list on Friday due to a personal matter, but he now needs to ramp his arm back up for a potential late-season or playoff return. Even if Darvish makes it back at some point in September, he might only have a start or two as a fantasy option.
