Yermin Mercedes Has Been The Best Story In Baseball
4 years agoChicago White Sox designated hitter Yermin Mercedes has been baseball's best story early this season. The 28-year-old rookie set an MLB record with eight straight hits after he wasn't even expected to make the team out of spring training. Eloy Jimenez's early season injury opened up a spot at DH for Mercedes, and it'd be an understatement to say that he's taken advantage of it. Heading into Tuesday's action, Mercedes is slashing a ridiculous .500/.556/.781 with three doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. As long as the rookie's bat stays hot and he continues to play everyday, he needs to be rostered in all formats. However, this pace cannot be sustained, and he's likely to become more of a platoon bat against left-handers once he comes back down to Earth.
