Yankees Taking Careful Approach With Luis Severino
6 years agoNew York Yankees ace Luis Severino (shoulder) has been taking calculated steps towards his eventual return, although that still seems to be some weeks away. The 25-year-old has been practicing light tosses on flat ground, gradually moving up from 50 feet to as far as 120-foot throws this past Monday. Eventually, he'll update to bullpen sessions before the inevitable string of minor-league rehab starts that will lead to his return to the big league club. The Yankees, however, are being very careful with their managing of the right-hander, fresh off a four-year, $40 million extension. Beginning on the day Severino started throwing on flat ground, the club will basically have Severino go through another Spring Training that will last five weeks. Considering this step, early May still seems like the best timetable for his return.
