Yankees Have "Inquired" About Zack Wheeler
6 years agoAccording to a report by Senior MLB Writer Marc Carig, the New York Yankees have "recently inquired" about New York Mets starting pitcher Zack Wheeler. The Yankees have long been frontrunners to be "buyers" at the trade deadline, and one of their targets has been starting pitching. They've been linked to the likes of Cole Hamels and J.A. Happ, as well as a show-stopping trade for either Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard. But now, it seems like with the team's increased interest in star third baseman Manny Machado, they might look into a young, cheaper — cheaper, as in they won't have to give up a lot of prospects — pitching option. Wheeler had a great June after a terrible May, and has been okay in July thus far. If he were to join the Bombers, his value would increase exponentially on the fantasy market. It remains to be seen if the Yankees' interest bears any fruit.
