Yankees Expected To Seek Catcher, Pitcher Before Deadline
6 years agoThe New York Yankees have made two high-profile moves with the acquisitions of closer Zach Britton and starter J.A. Happ, and according to sources, they aren't done. Joel Sherman reports that the Yankees are now turning their attention to getting another catcher, as well as another starting pitcher if the market is right. With Gary Sanchez (groin) on the disabled list for the foreseeable future, the Yankees are rotating Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka at the position. If one of them gets hurt the Yankees will be in real trouble. It's doubtful they give up prospects to make a move for someone like J.T. Realmuto, but Thursday's deal between the Los Angeles Angels and Houston Astros for Martin Maldonado shows that there is a market for catching depth. That said, it's doubtful that any catcher the Yankees acquire — if a deal is made — will supplant Romine as Sanchez's primary backup.
