Yankees Agree With Gio Gonzalez
6 years agoThe New York Yankees agreed to a minor league deal with free-agent starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez on Monday night. The left-hander will earn $3 million for the season, plus incentives, if he's added to the major league roster, a source told ESPN's Buster Olney. Gonzalez can also opt out of the deal he he's not in the big leagues by April 20. The Yanks won't have Luis Severino (shoulder) or CC Sabathia (knee) to start the season, so Gonzalez has a chance to win a spot. Gonzalez is one of only five pitchers who have made at least 25 starts in every season this decade, but he's no guarantee to win a rotation spot to begin the season, let alone a roster spot. He's faced hitters and thrown upwards of 80 pitches in Miami recently.
