Yadier Molina Open To Playing For Another Team
5 years agoSt. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina's three-year, $60 million deal will expire after the 2020 season, and he only wanted to play for the Cardinals for a few more seasons. But that was before the coronavirus outbreak that has halted the 2020 season. "Obviously, St. Louis is my first option. But if they don't sign me, then I'm willing to go into free agency. This situation has changed my mentality and all I want to do is play," Molina said. He wants to continue exploring an extension with St. Louis that goes through the 2022 season, but if they aren't open to signing him, he's open to signing with another team. Molina has caught 1,947 games in his career, the most games caught with a single team in MLB history. He's also won nine Gold Gloves, the third-most among catchers. While Molina's defense remains strong, the nine-time All-Star backstop hit just 10 home runs last season, and fantasy owners should be worried about him breaking down. RotoBaller has him ranked as the No. 14 fantasy catcher for 2020.
