Xavier Edwards Hitting Leadoff For Marlins
5 months agoWith shortstop Tim Anderson landing on the bereavement list, Miami Marlins infielder Xavier Edwards was called up from Triple-A Jacksonville and is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff on Friday for the series opener against the visiting Cleveland Guardians and left-hander Logan Allen. Edwards could get some short-term run at shortstop in Miami while both Anderson and Otto Lopez are away from the team for personal reasons this weekend. The 24-year-old made his major-league debut in 2023 and went 23-for-78 (.295) with no homers, three RBI and five stolen bases in just 30 games. The switch-hitter got a late start to 2024 due to a bacterial infection. He has speed to spare -- he's stolen 30-plus bases twice in the minors -- but his fantasy value will likely be limited to NL-only leagues while he's up with the Marlins.
