Wily Peralta Expected To Remain In Save's Mix
6 years agoKansas City Royals relief pitcher Wily Peralta performed well last season when he took over the closer role late in the year, but some underlying concerns have led to him starting the season as part of a late-inning committee. While Peralta was effective at closing out games, he was constantly plagued by baserunners, mostly due to his astronomical 6.03 walks per nine innings. That made two straight years in which Peralta's free passes have been sky high, and unless he can bring that down, expect a huge ERA to follow closely behind. In the meantime, KC has stocked their bullpen full of veterans looking for comebacks such as Ian Kennedy, Drew Storen, Jake Diekman, Brad Boxberger, and possibly Danny Duffy. Owners probably shouldn't bank on Peralta seeing many good chances for saves.
