2 years agoWith right-hander Gerrit Cole on the mound for the New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants infielder Wilmer Flores got the start at the hot corner and hit in the heart of the lineup, batting third. He went hitless in three at-bats but managed a walk during the 5-0 loss. The start likely signals that Flores will be the starting third baseman moving forward, not just a platoon option against left-handers. With everyday playing time from the middle of the lineup, the 31-year-old veteran will look to improve his numbers from 2022, where he hit .229, slugged 19 homers, drove in 71, and scored 72 times. If manager Gabe Kapler continues using Flores in this role, he has more fantasy value than initially thought, specifically in deep leagues, and should contribute power and counting stats.--Spencer Seguin
