William Smith Shuts Door For Seventh Save
4 years agoAtlanta Braves pitcher William Smith shut the door in the ninth inning of the club's 3-2 victory against the Washington Nationals on Thursday. The veteran right-hander allowed one hit -- a double to veteran Ryan Zimmerman -- and struck out a batter in an otherwise uneventful inning. He threw nine of his 13 pitches for strikes. Over his last five appearances, Smith has not allowed a run and has saved four games. He's also given up just two hits. Smith has been one of the more reliable closers this year after not earning a save last season in 18 games. However, he is just two years removed from recording 34 saves for the San Francisco Giants.
