4 years agoWill Zalatoris is set to make his Open Championship debut this week. The 24-year-old has been a revelation since exploding on to the PGA Tour scene late last year with a top-10 in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot and a runner-up finish in the 2021 Masters. However, Zalatoris has cooled a bit as of late and a T26 in last week's Scottish Open sticks out as his best result since May. The Open Championship is notoriously difficult on first timers, which makes "Willie Z" more of a GPP option in DFS formats this week. --Joe Nicely - RotoBaller

4 weeks agoWill Zalatoris finished T22 at last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational, marking his second consecutive top-25 finish and fourth for the season. He has yet to miss the cut in any of the six tournaments he has played in this year and will aim to maintain that streak when he tees it up at TPC Sawgrass for this week's The PLAYERS Championship. Zalatoris has had mixed results at this tournament in previous years. He missed the cut in 2024, finished 73rd in 2023, and placed T26 in 2022. Over the past 12 months, Zalatoris ranks in the 67th percentile for greens in regulation percentage on approach shots from 100-150 yards in the fairway. This is noteworthy because over 32% of approach shots at last year's The PLAYERS Championship came from this distance. Although Zalatoris has been in excellent form, his past results at this tournament make him a risky choice for DFS lineups this week.--Ian Christenson - RotoBaller

2 months agoGolf fans will likely remember Will Zalatoris' performance at the Genesis Invitational last year. Not only did the 28-year-old Tour star finish runner-up to Hideki Matsuyama, but he also made an incredible hole-in-one on the par-3 14th hole at The Riviera Country Club to win himself and his caddie new cars. While this year's tournament will be played at Torrey Pines, he could be in line for another spectacular week. At the South Course, golfers will see tight fairways and some of the smallest greens on Tour, and Zalatoris ranks 13th in driving accuracy and eighth in greens in regulation so far this season. He's also had great results at the Farmers Insurance Open in the past, finishing T13 in 2024, runner-up in 2022, and T7 in 2021, and he notoriously raises his baseline in difficult scoring conditions. Zalatoris profiles as a cut-maker with top-10 upside at this week's Genesis Invitational, and he may very well find himself in contention for his second Tour victory come Sunday evening.--Ryan Hickey

2 months agoAfter withdrawing from the Farmers Insurance Open, Will Zalatoris is returning to action this week for just his third appearance at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. His previous results at this event have been underwhelming, with finishes of T55 in 2021 and T68 in 2018. This week, approach shots from 100-150 yards will be crucial, as 37.6% of all shots into the green come from this range. Zalatoris ranks in the 50th percentile for strokes gained from this distance. His putting has improved this season, but he still ranks just 90th in strokes gained in putting. While his uninspiring course history might deter fantasy managers from rostering him at his $8,400 price tag on DraftKings, his recent form, with finishes of T12 and T26, could encourage managers to take a chance on his upside.--Dakota Legg - RotoBaller

2 months agoWill Zalatoris has withdrawn from the Farmers Insurance Open before his first tee time. No immediate reason was given for his withdrawal. This would have been his third start in the past four weeks. Zalatoris is another big name to withdraw from this week's tournament with Xander Schauffele and Collin Morikawa withdrawing earlier this week.--Ian Christenson - RotoBaller
