Will Smith Earns Multi-Inning Save Wednesday
5 years agoSan Francisco Giants closer Will Smith did his job in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Cardinals, picking up his 31st save of the season. Smith entered the game in the eighth inning with two outs, a runner on third, and a one-run lead. He was able to strike out Paul Goldschmidt to strand the runner and then allowed two walks with two strikeouts in the ninth to close the game out. Smith's final line was 1 1/3 innings pitched with no runs allowed on no hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Smith has been one of baseball's top closers this season, converting 31 of 35 save opportunities with a 2.90 ERA and a 12.97 K/9 rate. Fantasy owners should have him in their lineups for the rest of the playoffs.
