Whit Merrifield Steals Two On Day 1
6 years agoKansas City Royals utility man Whit Merrifield may feel some pressure on the basepaths with speedsters Adalberto Mondesi and Billy Hamilton on the team, so he decided to jump out to an early lead in the stolen base race. Merrifield swiped a pair of bases off White Sox starter Carlos Rodon on Thursday and scored two runs en route to helping the Royals win their Opening Day matchup with Chicago. Merrifield has stolen 79 bases over the last two years, and though he's as fleet of foot as his teammates, he's a crafty thief who is successful on over 80% of his attempts. With Merrifield penciled in to work at the top of a lineup skewed towards speed, owners should expect him to be running at every opportunity.
