NASCAR Hall of Famer Jimmie Johnson will start 27th in Sunday's Wurth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. Every week in NASCAR DFS, there seems to be one driver in the field that is particularly difficult to assess, a driver that you can make a strong argument for and an equally strong argument against. This week, that driver is Jimmie Johnson. With 38 Cup starts at this track, Johnson has 11 wins (28.9% of starts), 18 top-fives (47% of starts), and 27 top-10s (71.1% of starts). Between these races, he has led 3,113 laps, is averaging 9.7 for his finish, and has just two DNFs. Although he has not raced at this track since 2020, in both starts that season, he finished seventh & third, for an average +5.5 in place differential. To put his dominance at this track into perspective, Johnson has seven more wins than Martin Truex Jr., who has the most wins among active full-time drivers in the Cup Series at this venue. Any driver that puts up this type of production is hard to ignore, especially when that driver is a former seven-time Cup Series champion. Despite these amazing numbers, a lot has changed since Johnson last won at this track in 2017. In his last five starts in the Cup Series, the 48-year-old has three DNFs and an average finish of 32.6. In his two starts this season, Johnson is averaging just 16.13 DraftKings points, which ranks him 38th among drivers that have competed in a NASCAR regular season race this year. Whether it is that he is too old to still be competitive or that he just has not had enough time in the Gen-7 car, something has changed for the 22-year Cup veteran.
