Wade Davis Officially Demoted Again
5 years agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Wade Davis was awarded the closing gig once again when Scott Oberg (blood clot) hit the Injured List, but that was short-lived. After blowing two straight games, Davis was officially moved out of the role once again by manager Bud Black. Black told reporters that he's going to give opportunities to young right-handers Jairo Diaz and Carlos Estevez instead. While Davis' performance with the Rockies has been a bit of a running joke, since he's making $18 million and is one of a host of recent relievers Colorado whiffed on, what's interesting is just how bad Colorado itself has been for him. Davis has a 7.43 ERA this season, but he's got a 2.40 ERA on the road. He's only thrown six more innings at home than away, but his 10.97 ERA with a .954 OPS allowed is the real key to his problems. Maybe next season, he'll just be Colorado's road closer.
