Wade Davis Immediately Falters As Closer
5 years agoColorado Rockies relief pitcher Wade Davis was promoted back into the closer role on Sunday when teammate Scott Oberg (clot) was put on the Injured List, and he immediately showed why he had been removed. Davis was given the standard save opportunity of a one-run lead in the top of the ninth inning at home, and he promptly walked the first batter he saw, gave up a double to put runners on second and third, and allowed a single to tie the game. He was removed without having attained a single out, and he was bailed out from taking the loss by his offense eventually tying it back up in the bottom half of the inning. Needless to say, nobody should rush out to grab Davis right now unless they are truly desperate for saves.
