Viral Illness Lands Noah Syndergaard On DL
6 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (illness) landed back on the disabled list Sunday due to hand, foot and mouth disease -- a viral infection common in children. The team thinks Syndergaard contracted the illness while working a youth camp during the All-Star break. Assistant general manager John Ricco said there is a chance that Thor misses just one start. He's expected to be out only seven to 10 days. Corey Oswalt will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Syndergaard's rotation spot. Oswalt is scheduled to start on Wednesday against the Padres, and he'll make for a sleeper streamer in that one. Syndergaard's velocity dipped during his start on Friday and he complained of feeling a "dead arm" after the game. He had recently returned from a long absence due to a strain of his right index finger, so this is surely disappointing for his fantasy owners. But at least he's not expected to miss much time. Since coming off the DL before, he was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA.
