Victor Martinez Likely To Retire At Season's End
6 years agoDetroit Tigers designated hitter Victor Martinez said he's likely to retire at the end of the 2018 season. The 39-year-old is in the final year of his contract and is hitting .244/.294/.331 with six home runs and 39 RBI in 402 plate appearances this year. He's just a shell of his former self at the dish, but the switch-hitting former catcher was once one of the best all-around hitters in the game in his prime. He has a career .295 average in his major league career. Because of his lack of power and is declining skills with the bat, he hasn't been fantasy relevant on a rebuilding club in 2018.
