1 year agoToronto Maple Leafs forward Tyler Bertuzzi will not be available for Wednesday's game against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. The veteran will miss the contest while awaiting the birth of his child. It's been an inconsistent season for Bertuzzi, his first with the Maple Leafs. After signing a one-year, $4 million deal, the 28-year-old has just six goals, including just one goal over his last 26 games since Nov. 25, along with 20 points and 84 shots on goal across 45 games on the campaign. It's a far cry from the 30 goals and 62 points he posted across 68 games in his final season with the Red Wings in 2021-22 while he posted a decent 30 points between the Red Wings and Bruins a season ago. He has spent the bulk of the season skating with NHL goal-scoring leader Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.--Brenton Kemp

10 months agoThe Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly interested in bringing back veteran forwards Tyler Bertuzzi and Max Domi as long as it makes sense for both parties, according to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun. Both players signed one-year pacts with the Leafs last offseason and both got off to slow starts before getting things turned around offensively and finishing the season on the flanks of superstar center Auston Matthews. Bertuzzi finished the season with 21 goals and 43 points across 80 games but also tallied 15 goals and 23 points across his final 34 regular-season games. For his part, Domi recorded nine goals and 38 points in 80 games, including 17 points across his final 21 contests.--Brenton Kemp

10 months agoAccording to NHL insider David Pagnotta, the Toronto Maple Leafs have started contract negotiations with Tyler Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi, who signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the club last offseason, is a pending unrestricted free agent. It was a down year for Bertuzzi, but the team clearly still sees him as a very valuable member of the squad and wants to extend his stay. After averaging at least 0.60 points per game for five straight seasons, Bertuzzi was limited to 21 goals and 43 points in 80 games with the Maple Leafs.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller

1 year agoToronto Maple Leafs winger Tyler Bertuzzi is a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against the visiting Edmonton Oilers. Bertuzzi has been slowed by an illness of late but skated on Saturday morning. Head coach Sheldon Keefe noted that the veteran is still no sure thing to play Saturday evening. The Leafs signed Bertuzzi to a one-year deal this past offseason and after a sluggish start, he has caught fire of late with eight goals and 11 points over his last 12 games while spending some time on the top line alongside sniper Auston Matthews. For the season, Bertuzzi has tallied 15 goals and 34 points across 67 games, adding 129 shots and 78 hits to his ledger.--Brenton Kemp
