Tyler Austin Demoted To Triple-A
6 years agoFollowing Thursday night’s New York Yankees victory over the Tampa Bay Rays, the club demoted first baseman Tyler Austin to the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The 26-year-old was the club's primary first baseman while Greg Bird spent over a month on the disabled list to begin the year. While he hit a solid .286 in April, he’s struggled since then, hitting just .130 in May. Austin was kept on the roster even as Ronald Torreyes, who has become a staple of the Yankees, was sent to the RailRiders. The move was made in anticipation of Jonathan Loaisiga’s start on Friday.
