Ty Gibbs nearly started off his sophomore season in the NASCAR Cup Series with a bang. The 22-year-old Joe Gibbs Racing driver had one of, if not the strongest car all night at the Los Angeles Coliseum, as the No. 54 Toyota led a race-high 84 laps while also having the best Green Flag Speed (65.311 mph) and Average Running Position (1.85). Gibbs was leading with ten laps to go in Saturday night's Busch Light Clash but was passed by teammate Denny Hamlin, and then with one lap remaining, he was spun by Kyle Larson. When the checkered flag flew, Gibbs walked away with an 18th-place finish in the exhibition race. Although a strong night ended up with a disappointing result, the speed can be seen as a good sign for Ty Gibbs heading into his second season in the NASCAR Cup Series.--Jordan McAbee
