Twins Signing Jonathan Schoop, Ronald Torreyes
6 years agoThe Minnesota Twins are signing free-agent second baseman Jonathan Schoop to a one-year deal worth about $7 million on Thursday and are also signing infielder Ronald Torreyes to a one-year deal. Schoop was a bust after the Brewers traded for him last summer, hitting .202 with four homers and 21 RBI in 46 games for them and barely playing in the postseason. He was an All-Star in 2017 with 32 long balls and 105 RBI, but that was likely his peak. Schoop could be a threat to return to the 20-homer mark, but it won't be easy in pitcher-friendly Minnesota. He's a middle infield option in deep mixed leagues with upside. Torreyes is a utility infielder with not much of an offensive game to speak of (zero homers in 100 at-bats for the Yanks in 2018). He has just four home runs in 615 major league plate appearances.
