Tua Tagovailoa Begins Working With Team Doctors
5 years agoMiami Dolphins rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, selected fifth overall in April's draft, started training at the team's facilities on Monday following his serious hip injury last November. Team doctors and trainers now have access to the 22-year-old because of the loosened restrictions the NFL imposed on every team amid the coronavirus pandemic. Tagovailoa is a little bit ahead of schedule in his rehab from hip surgery and is healing well. Mainly, there was no wear and tear on other areas of concern like the femoral head or the acetabulum or the pelvis itself. His blood supply in the hip area also wasn't compromised, which could've led to bone deterioration. The Dolphins are comfortable letting Ryan Fitzpatrick open the season as the starter so that they can be cautious with their future franchise QB. According to a team source, some inside the organization think the best plan for the rookie is to have Tagovailoa not take part in any drills involving contact for a full year. It's why he's not much of a redraft target in fantasy leagues, but he'll be one of the first players off the board in rookie dynasty drafts.

Tua Tagovailoa Won’t Play Against Jets
3 months agoMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip) is officially inactive for Sunday's Week 18 contest against the New York Jets. He had been listed as doubtful despite being a limited participant in practice. As expected, Tyler Huntley will draw his second consecutive start. He led Miami to a victory last weekend, and now, he'll be tasked with keeping Miami's playoff hopes alive. The Dolphins can secure the No. 7 seed with a win plus a Broncos loss. Although they won't have Tagovailoa for Sunday's decisive game, the Dolphins will have both Jaylen Waddle (knee) and Tyreek Hill (wrist, illness) available. Huntley ranks as a QB3 in fantasy football this week.

Tua Tagovailoa Could Be Up In The Air If Dolphins Advance To Postseason
3 months agoMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip) is unlikely to play in the Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival New York Jets on Sunday due to a unique hip injury that affects the surrounding muscles and leaves him vulnerable to further injury, according to sources. Tagovailoa has pushed to play when his team needs him the most, but it's not a guarantee that he'll be available if the Dolphins win in Week 18 and advance to wild-card weekend. Tagovailoa said his general feeling is worse than how he felt a week after he had ankle surgery during his final season in college in 2019. Head coach Mike McDaniel said it's the same hip that Tagovailoa had surgically repaired, but it's a different injury. While Tua does have a career-high 72.9 completion percentage, 19 TDs and seven interceptions, he's played in only 11 games after a stint on Injured Reserve due to another concussion.

Tua Tagovailoa Unlikely To Play Sunday
3 months agoMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip) is unlikely to play Sunday against the New York Jets, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Miami will once again start backup quarterback Tyler Huntley, who oversaw the win in Cleveland last week, as they attempt to qualify for the playoffs, which would require another victory today and help elsewhere. Though Tagovailoa was widely expected to miss Week 18, the quarterback said this week that he can play next week if Miami advances. Rapoport, however, reported his status would be "up in the air" if Miami plays a Wild Card game. But first, the Dolphins have to get to that bridge before they can cross it.

Tua Tagovailoa Doubtful For Week 18
3 months agoMiami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa (hip) is listed as doubtful to play in Sunday's Week 18 regular-season finale against the division-rival Jets in New York. Tagovailoa was limited in practice all week but is likely to miss his second straight game as the Dolphins look to keep their playoff hopes alive with a win over the Jets this weekend. Head coach Mike McDaniel said earlier on Friday that Tagovailoa was unlikely to play on Sunday, so his doubtful listing doesn't come as a huge surprise. The 26-year-old former fifth overall pick missed four games earlier in the year with another scary concussion and will wrap up his fifth year in the NFL with only 2,867 passing yards and 19 touchdowns in 11 starts, although he did lead the league with a 72.9% completion percentage. With Tagovailoa likely to miss a second straight game, Miami's playoff hopes will rest on the shoulders of backup Tyler Huntley.
