2 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance (ankle) was carted off the field early during the Week 2 matchup against Seattle due to an ankle injury. Most were hoping for good news. However, the update isn't good, with NFL insider Adam Schefter reporting the team believes the signal-caller suffered a "significant ankle injury." As a result, Lance is expected to undergo surgery, likely ending his season. The 22-year-old was named the Niners' starter in the offseason and was projected to take a step forward in his progression. Yet, now that he's presumably done for the year, the team will likely turn to a familiar face in Jimmy Garoppolo, who may be under center for the remainder of the 2022-23 campaign.--Dennis Clausen - RotoBaller
