Trevor May Picks Up Tuesday's Save
2 years agoOakland Athletics reliever Trevor May closed out Tuesday's 1-0 extra-inning win over the Detroit Tigers. He went one inning, allowing no hits and one walk while striking out one to earn his sixth save of the season. May's numbers aren't pretty, as he's sporting a 5.16 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and 17.6% strikeout rate across 22 2/3 innings. But since May 1, the 33-year-old owns a 2.70 ERA and all of his saves have come after the start of June. May can still be left on the waiver wire in standard leagues, but fantasy managers in deeper formats targeting saves should think about picking up the former fourth-round pick.

Trevor May Keeps Rolling Thursday
2 years agoOakland Athletics closer Trevor May picked up his 21st save of the season in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Minnesota Twins. May didn't allow a baserunner and struck out one in his inning of work. The veteran reliever is on a very nice run since June, picking up all 21 of his saves while allowing only 11 runs (eight earned) in 34 ⅔ IP (2.08 ERA). With May not under contract for 2024, his fantasy value remains up in the air. Should he return to Oakland, he would likely not have much competition for the closer role, meaning he would be draftable as a low-end reliever.

Trevor May Converts His 18th Save Wednesday
2 years agoOakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May was asked to pitch the ninth inning of the 5-2 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday. He allowed one hit, but that was all as he earned his 18th save of the season. May now owns a 3.89 ERA (5.27 FIP), 1.50 WHIP, 18.6% strikeout rate, and 15.8% walk rate through 42 games this season. The 33-year-old might lead the A's bullpen, but those are hard numbers to roster in standard 12-team formats, even with his occasional save. Fantasy managers can likely find better relief help on the waiver wire.

Trevor May Picks Up Tuesday's Save
2 years agoOakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May recorded his 13th save of the season on Tuesday when his club defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-4. The 33-year-old completed one inning of work, striking out one and allowing no baserunners. May hasn't been the most dominant reliever in 2023, posting a 4.37 ERA, 1.51 WHIP, and 18.2% strikeout rate to go along with a 16.4% walk rate. Despite leading the A's bullpen, the nine-year veteran isn't very valuable in standard leagues with his lackluster numbers and rare save opportunities.

Trevor May Struggles Versus Nationals
2 years agoOakland Athletics right-hander Trevor May was given the ball with a four-run lead during Sunday's game against the Washington Nationals. The right-hander proceeded to allow five runs (three earned) on three hits and two walks. It didn't help that the defense only made mistakes as well, but May wasn't helping himself on the mound. The 33-year-old has been fairly solid with 12 saves on the season. However, the A's aren't in the playoff race, so it wouldn't be shocking if they decide to give some young pitchers a chance in the closer role. For now, fantasy managers who have May rostered can continue using him, but don't be surprised if they decide to shake it up.
