Trea Turner Triples In Friday's Loss
1 year agoPhiladelphia Phillies shortstop Trea Turner went 1-for-5 with a triple, a run scored, and two strikeouts in a 6-5 loss to the Cleveland Guardians on Friday. Turner picked up his lone hit, his fourth triple of the season, in the top of the third inning off Gavin Williams. He would then come around to score on a Nick Castellanos ground out in the same frame to put Philadelphia on the board. The 30-year-old speedster didn't reach base in his other four plate appearances in this one as the Phillies dropped the opening game of the three-game set against Cleveland. Turner has struggled most of the season but has looked a little better at the dish following the All-Star break. Over his last seven contests, he's batting .276 with a .792 OPS, two RBI, two stolen bases, and a 5:3 K/BB ratio. He's not exactly lighting the world on fire but it's encouraging to see a decrease in strikeouts, considering he already has 103 on the season and his career-high is 132 (2018). Overall, Turner is slashing .246/.299/.388 with 10 home runs, 34 RBI, and 21 stolen bases over 402 at-bats.
