9 months agoWashington Nationals pitching prospect Travis Sykora turned in a start of five no-hit innings with two walks and seven strikeouts on Tuesday for Single-A Fredericksburg. The 20-year-old lowered his season ERA to 2.78 with a 0.90 WHIP. The Nationals' No. 11 prospect is turning in a quality season in his first year of professional baseball. The right-hander has a 70-grade fastball to pair with a 60-grade splitter and 55-grade slider. Sykora is looking like a premium pitching prospect for Washington but could be a long way away from making a major league debut.--Brian Buckey - RotoBaller

8 months agoWashington Nationals starting pitching prospect Travis Sykora led the way in a combined no-hitter on Friday evening as he tossed six perfect frames. He struck out 10 batters. The former third-round pick in last year's draft has not allowed an earned run across his past three starts (15 innings) while holding an incredible 2:28 BB:K ratio. Overall, Sykora has looked great through his first season of professional ball. He has held a solid 2.42 ERA and a 0.85 WHIP through 63 innings of work at Single-A. He is currently ranked as the 13th-best prospect in the Washington pipeline on MLB.com and is name to keep a close eye on as he is due for a promotion to High-A.--Andy Smith - RotoBaller

8 months agoWashington Nationals pitching prospect Travis Sykora earned Carolina League Pitcher of the Week honors after pitching five hitless innings in his start on Friday for Single-A Fredericksburg. The 20-year-old has been effective all season at Single-A with a 2-3 record, 2.67 ERA, and 0.94 WHIP this year in 14 starts. The right-hander has recorded 86 strikeouts in 57 1/3 innings. The Nationals' No. 13 prospect is dealing right now and could earn a promotion to High-A soon. 10 months agoWashington Nationals pitching prospect Travis Sykora turned in a good start Thursday for Single-A Fredericksburg, going five innings and allowing one run on one hit with eight strikeouts and two walks. In three June starts, the 20-year-old has a 1.98 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with 17 strikeouts and five walks in 13 2/3 innings pitched. The 6-foot-6 right-hander boasts a high-octane fastball to go with a plus splitter and slider.
