Torrey Smith Takes A Pay Cut
5 years agoCarolina Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith agreed to take a pay cut of $2 million this year, according to a source. Smith was due a non-guaranteed $5 million salary in 2019 but is now owed a base salary of $2 million with $1 million more in incentives. The move creates $2 million in salary cap space. The 30-year-old remains a deep threat but had just 17 receptions for 190 yards and two touchdowns and was a fantasy non-factor in 11 games last year. Coupled with the questions surrounding quarterback Cam Newton's shoulder, Smith is only attractive in deep standard-scoring leagues, and even then he's likely to make much noise.
