Tiger Woods Disappoints With Opening-Round 78
6 years agoTiger Woods headed to Shinnecock Hills this week with hopes of capturing his fourth U.S. Open title. Those expectations took a huge blow Thursday when he sputtered to an opening-round 78. Woods put himself in the hole early when he made an ugly triple-bogey on his very first hole of the day. He followed with a bogey on the second hole to put himself at four-over par after only two holes. Woods did settle down with a birdie on the fifth hole, but it would be his first and last of the day. He then logged devastating back-to-back double-bogeys on the back nine to finish at eight-over par for the day. It was an extremely difficult scoring day at Shinnecock Hills. Four players are tied for the lead at one-under par. Woods will have to play well Friday just to make the cut.
