Texans Likely To Lean On Ryan Griffin At Tight End
6 years agoWith Houston Texans tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz retiring due to head injuries, the team will likely lean on Ryan Griffin in 2018, but his skill is as a receiver and not as a blocker. Stephen Anderson can provide a change of pace, but his size doesn't make him an adequate blocker. Houston also drafted Jordan Akins in the third round and Jordan Thomas, but both are developmental projects at the position. "As far as replacing anybody, I don’t know if one person is going to do it. I think it will be more of a collective effort. But again, if you look at the tight ends and how they played last year, it’s more of a collective group, even when C.J. was in the room," tight ends coach Tim Kelly said. Griffin will likely be the main pass-catching tight end, but Anderson will also mix in, leaving both as unattractive TE2 options.
