Teams Interested In Noah Syndergaard, Zack Wheeler
5 years agoMultiple teams have contacted the New York Mets about starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard as the trade deadline approaches, but a heavy price will be paid if he is to be moved this month. The Padres and Brewers are among the teams that have inquired about Thor, according to sources. San Diego's plentiful farm system that is rich with pitching should allow them to pursue any available starter this month. The Mets, who have the second-worst record in the National League, are viewed by the industry as sellers before the deadline. The Brewers are also monitoring both Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler. Wheeler is on an expiring contract, but Syndergaard won't be eligible for free agency until after 2021, which makes him a less obvious trade candidate. New York is likely to base much of their valuation on Syndergaard's career 2.93 ERA in his first four seasons, however, he's posting a career-worst 4.68 ERA in 2019. The Astros are also intrigued by Syndergaard as a possible replacement for Gerrit Cole after this year.
