Tanner Scott Could Rack Up Saves, Strikeouts
4 years agoThe Baltimore Orioles won't name an official closer for 2021 but pitcher Tanner Scott could see his fair share of opportunities. The hard-throwing lefty will need to find the strike zone more consistently than he did in the spring (five walks in 6.1 innings) but he's averaged a strikeout rate near 30% averaged out over the past three MLB seasons. Last year, batters managed to hit just .164 against him and he produced a 1.31 ERA with one save and five holds. Hunter Harvey (oblique) is out with an injury and Cesar Valdez has been moved to more of a bulk-inning role so that leaves unproven arms Cole Sulser and Shawn Armstrong as the other key pitchers that could see high-leverage innings.
