Taijuan Walker Lasts Just Five Innings On Thursday
3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Taijuan Walker went just five innings on Thursday against the Padres in the Mets 4-3 loss on the road in San Diego. In just his second start from his return from the injured list due to tightness on his side, Walker allowed seven hits and four walks, along with three earned runs, while striking out just two batters. Walker came into the contest with a 1.84 ERA, a 0.94 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 49 innings. He saw his ERA rise to 2.17 and WHIP jump to 1.06 due to the poor outing. Despite Thursday's hiccup, it has been an otherwise excellent season so far for the 28-year old right-hander. With the recent injury setbacks to Noah Syndergaard (elbow) and Carlos Carrasco (hamstring) further delaying their return, Walker has been a tremendous asset to a depleted Mets rotation, not to mention fantasy managers who took him in the later rounds of drafts. Walker will try to get back on track for his next start which is scheduled for Wednesday in Baltimore against the Orioles. Fantasy managers should continue to keep Walker active, despite Thursday's performance.
