Steven Wright Throws Off Mound
7 years agoBoston Red Sox starting pitcher Steven Wright (knee) will throw off the mound for the first time Wednesday, according to Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe. Wright, who had cartilage restoration surgery on his left knee in May, started throwing from halfway up the mound then got to the top for the first time since his procedure and threw 10 more pitches. “I threw last year with so much pain and discomfort. To finally get on the mound and throw with some force on it, it felt good. Like a little victory,” Wright said. He is also under investigation by MLB for domestic assault. Once both of these issues are resolved, Wright will have to compete for a rotation spot. For now, the Red Sox hope Wright can pitch at some point in spring training and build up innings in a minor league rehab assignment later.
