Stephen Thompson Unable To Capitalize On His Opportunity
3 years agoWith a title shot within his grasp, Stephen Thompson (16-5-1) was unable to get the victory in Saturday's co-main event, dropping a unanimous decision to Gilbert Burns (29-28) on all three scorecards. In 15 minutes of action, Thompson was only able to rack up 19 significant strikes (59 total strikes) while being taken down three times by the jiu-jitsu expert. With the loss, Thompson finds himself on the outside looking in after being one of the few top-ranked fighters to compete against Kamaru Usman for the title.
