Starling Marte Unsure If He'll Return This Year
1 year agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte's (groin) optimism for a quick return has waned over the last two weeks after a second opinion on his right-groin strain. "We don't know yet," Marte said when asked if he will play in September. "It could be. It could not be. We're just trying to go through the proper procedures and the proper methods and the proper training to be able to get to that point. But right now, it's too early to tell." He received a second injection on the right side of his groin earlier this week. But in general, Marte hasn't felt healthy all year. The 34-year-old had surgery on both sides of his groin last offseason, and he's said on multiple occasions that the pain in his groin has lingered. There's a chance he'll need another offseason surgery on his groin. The fact that Marte has even stolen 24 bases this season for fantasy managers is impressive, but he's done very little else in 315 at-bats for the Mets.
