Starling Marte To Make Spring Debut Friday
2 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (groin) is on track to make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday. Marte underwent core surgery during the offseason, and manager Buck Showalter is taking every precaution to ensure his readiness for the season. Marte was one of the marquee offseason acquisitions made by the Mets before last season. He pocketed $78 million on a four-year contract, which included a $5 million signing bonus. The 34-year-old put together one of the most productive seasons in his 11-year career. Marte matched his OPS+ career high with a 132 mark and compiled a .292 average. He maintained a 19.2% strikeout rate with a .355 wOBA. The Dominican is one of the most envied hitters in the Mets lineup and hopes to continue his consistency at the pro level in 2023.
