Starling Marte Plays Catch, Hits Off Tee
3 months agoNew York Mets outfielder Starling Marte (knee) played catch and hit off a tee on Friday as he continues to make progress from a right-knee contusion that he suffered on June 22. Marte's rehab process has been slow, but he's getting closer to a return in the second half of the season for the Mets. Because the Mets are taking their time with the 35-year-old veteran outfielder, there is no timetable for his return, and he almost certainly won't be back with the big-league club until sometime in August. Until he's able to return, the Mets will use some combination of Jeff McNeil, DJ Stewart and Tyrone Taylor in center field. Marte is no longer in the prime of his career and has become an injury risk, but he was still hitting a solid .278/.328/.416 with seven home runs, 30 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 38 runs scored for New York in 66 games before his knee injury.
