Spring Training Likely To Be Delayed
3 years agoMajor League Baseball and player representatives continue to hold much different views of the game's economics when it comes to a new Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the scheduled start of spring training in mid-February is in jeopardy. In another few weeks, Opening Day on March 31 could be a long shot as well. Players remain dissatisfied with their share of franchise revenues and are frustrated in their belief that the owners' latest proposals won't do enough to improve their overall standing. The two sides remain far apart on the minimum salary, arbitration and pre-arbitration bonus pools, the luxury tax, draft lottery and service-time manipulation. The players want significant change, while the owners largely want to maintain the status quo.
