Spencer Arrighetti Injures His Calf On Tuesday
6 months agoHouston Astros rookie right-hander Spencer Arrighetti (calf) left his start early on Tuesday against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals due to a left-calf contusion. Arrighetti was hit by a screaming line drive on his left calf in the second inning and only managed to make it through one more inning before hitting the showers early. In his three innings of work, the 24-year-old prospect allowed an earned run on three hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out four. It sounds as though Arrighetti escaped any serious damage to his leg, but we'll keep a close eye on him moving into this weekend to see if he's at all in danger of missing his next start. Given all the injuries to Houston's rotation already this year, the former sixth-rounder shouldn't have a problem retaining his rotation spot despite coming into Tuesday's game with an uneven 5.98 ERA and 1.65 WHIP in his first nine MLB starts. UPDATE: For what it's worth, Arrighetti said he's doing fine and expects to make his next scheduled start.
