The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenseman Simon Benoit to a three-year contract extension that carries a $1.35 million average annual value. The Leafs inked Benoit to a one-year, league-minimum contract prior to this season and the 25-year-old has become a key member of the team's blueline. Not known for his offense, Benoit has just one goal and five points in 54 games this season but has added a hefty 205 hits, 82 blocked shots, and 44 penalty minutes to his ledger in 16:55 of average ice time per game.
