Shohei Ohtani Won't Be Shut Down From Throwing
5 years agoLos Angeles Angels starting pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani (elbow) won't be shut down from throwing while Major League Baseball is suspended from play, according to general manager Billy Eppler. The same goes for the rest of the team's pitchers, but they're all still deciding where they'll be working out. The Japanese right-hander didn't pitch all last season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he wasn't scheduled to make his pitching debut in 2020 until some time in May. With Opening Day pushed back at least two weeks, this temporary layoff should only help Ohtani's fantasy value as a pitcher. He's also plenty useful for his bat after hitting .286/.343/.505 with 18 home runs, 62 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 384 at-bats last season.
