Shohei Ohtani Hits Two Homers Friday
4 years agoLos Angeles Angels designated hitter Shohei Ohtani hit his 20th and 21st home runs of the season in an 11-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday, the same day that he announced that he'd be participating in this year's Home Run Derby. Ohtani became the third player to reach the 20-homer mark this year. It was his first multi-homer game of the season and the fourth of his career. It's the second time in his career that Ohtani has reached 20 home runs, with the other coming in 2018 when he hit 22 and won the American League Rookie of the Year. He became only the second Japanese-born player with multiple 20-homer seasons, joining Hideki Matsui. Ohtani now has four homers in his last four games, and his multi-homer effort came a day after he allowed just one run over six innings on the mound. At the plate, he's hitting .273 with 50 RBI and a .991 OPS in 65 games. Ohtani can do it all and remains a must-start, both on the mound and with the bat.
